He may have been banking on a re-elected Trump (or Trump appointee) scuttling (or not starting) the investigation. Oops. Thanks for that link friedo. It partly answers a question I asked in [this 2019 thread](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/is-roger-stone-really-broke/830332)) about his pleas of poverty. His wife Nydia (née Bertran) is from a wealthy Cuban family (her father was a diplomat under the Batista regime) and they appear to be trying to make Roger broke on paper by moving to a condo owned by a trust she controls.
