Ketchup in those little, bitty dishes instead of packets.

Gold-colored, of course.

Possibly she thinks there’s no way the rest of the American electorate could be as stupid as she was in 2016? It wouldn’t be a catastrophe if Trump were to lose in 2024.

The scary part? That movie came out in 2014, well before Trump’s weird-ass White House banquets.

Why would she prevaricate by qualifying her statement that she wouldn’t vote for trump with the addendum “But I also do not want to sit here and catastrophize the scenario where he is actually the Republican nominee”.
>
> Not sure what the heck that even means. My guess is pretty much the same as yours; she got nervous after having put the “trump is the greatest threat to Democracy” line on record, and was trying to backtrack a little to not rile up the mega MAGA crazies against her too much.

I disagree (although tbf I don’t know any more details about Hutchinson’s statements or views than either of you). I read that (possibly clumsily expressed) statement as meaning “I don’t want to catastrophize—i.e., pessimistically obsess about the worst possibilities for—the situation by assuming the scenario where Trump is the Republican nominee.”

IOW, in my reading, Hutchinson feels that at present it is “catastrophizing” to focus on the hypothetical worst-case scenario where Trump actually is the next Republican nominee and voters have to decide whether or not to vote for him. Because she considers it very possible—and, clearly, desirable—that he won’t get the nomination in the first place.

He asked the White House chefs to replicate the McDonalds menu. He wasn’t satisfied with their efforts, so he made his body man Keith Schiller go to McDonalds and pick up food for him.

Perhaps I’m naive, but I think you’re being a bit unfair to Hutchinson. I doubt she’ll work in politics again. Even if the the pubs get their shit together, it’s unlikely any of them would hire her. Pols will all value loyalty to _them_ whether or not they wanted trump to fall; I doubt that she is ignorant of this fact. Possibly she genuinely believes in traditional republican ideas. Hopefully, after all she’s seen and experienced she’ll move past that too.

It’s ludicrous to think that maga will give her a pass for saying she’s still a republican, after saying anything remotely negative about trump. She may have been a bit young and naive when she began this road, but she’s learned a lot about trump and his fans. She’s been in hiding since j6, I doubt she, at this point, wants or believes she’s going to get maga’s forgiveness or support.

That is correct.

> Where happened to the McDonald's fried apple pies? The short answer is that McDonald's switched their fried apple pies for baked ones in 1992.

What’s funny is I never knew this. As a kid I remember hating the apple pies at McD’s. Eventually a girlfriend forced me to try one and I thought it was delicious.

But that would have been after the switch. So I suppose I must have hated the fried ones and like the baked ones. I didn’t know there was a difference, I just thought my tastes had changed.

It’s understandable. I think the crispy texture of the pastry is deliberately made to resemble fried pastry. Probably by having a high enough oil content that it might as well be fried.

Damn, and here I was, thinking, “The US still fries them? ROADTRIP!” The baked ones just don’t have the same “Oh, I know this is unhealthy, but my god it’s good!” quality to them.

He also repeatedly threw makeshift weapons at police officers, hurling a desk drawer, a flagpole, a metal walking stick and a wooden pole with a spear-like point.

Seven years isn’t too bad, I guess, for his treason. But the part of this story that really grabbed my attention today is the writing: _a wooden pole with a spear-like point_. Personally, I’d’ve just written _spear_, but I’m not [Jeremy Duncan](https://comicskingdom.com/zits/2023-10-08).

Maybe that’s what she meant, but the possibility of trump becoming the Repub nominee hardly seems like a “hypothetical worst-case scenario”. “Worst-case”, sure. But far from hypothetical or unlikely at this point.

Was it really a gizmo manufactured to be a spear? Or was he throwing a flagpole that has a spear-shaped finial on it? I know I don’t know.

Big difference in accurate throwability and actual pepetrating power between a real-nokidding modern hunting spear head and the sort 6-foot flagpole one could find all over a political office.

Both acts are equally criminal, the intent was to throw the [whatever] is _if_ it was a spear, and the defendant deserves at least 3x the sentence he got.

But if we’re going to quibble of the article’s terminology, it’s be worthwhile to know what was really thrown.
