Should we create a new prerequisite for the presidency? You have to own and properly take care of a pet before you can be considered? I’m half joking, but on seriously thinking about it having and taking care of a pet does demonstrate a certain mentality? State of mind? Is there a reason that the only three presidents that didn’t have a pet were all universally pretty terrible? (I don’t know very much about Polk to be TBH) ---

Caring for a pet demonstrates, well, the ability to **be caring** , and to do so on behalf of a creature who can do nothing for you other than bring you happiness by observing its own joy. This doesn’t happen if you don’t give a shit about anyone or anything other than yourself, and are in fact overtly hateful – i.e.- if you are Trump. Trump has said himself that he’d never have a dog, which I can support with the additional observation that he **never should be allowed** to do so.
