Technically, she’s not the nominee yet. It doesn’t make sense to schedule it yet. That said, the closer the debate is to election day, the more clearly that people will remember how well Trump performed. Generally, that’s not going to do him much good (minus an opponent that’s barely vertical). ---

I think Trump was hoping that Biden would look as bad as last time, and thus, that he (i.e. Trump) would be the definite winner and leave a good impression. But it seems to me that Trump is afraid of Harris; she’s younger, surer of herself than Trump seems to be of himself, speaks more clearly, and can provide answers to questions on issues that Trump has no clue about what to do. He would handwave them away with an “I’ll have a plan for that in two weeks” kind of answer. Harris should use that to her advantage: that Trump is too chicken to debate a woman. His reaction should provide us with a lot of schadenfreudey goodness. ---
