Lindsay Graham’s complete U-turn from John McCain BFF to Trump toady is one of the most baffling things I’ve seen in recent politics. Trump must really have some dirt on Lindsay that he desperately doesn’t want to get out. ---

It’s not baffling at all. Graham is the ultimate lickspittle. He attaches himself to whoever he sees as the biggest swinging dick alpha male he can find and publicly expresses his subservience to him. When that’s somebody like John McCain, who had ethical standards at all, Graham is left with room to still look like a relatively normal person under the bounds of ‘normal’ politics. When that person is Trump, who has no ethics, Graham is left with no room to look normal and appears to be the weak-willed toady he’s always been. ---

A Haitian group is [suing Trump and Vance](https://www.yahoo.com/news/want-judge-issue-arrest-warrants-195012284.html) for knowingly spreading false claims about immigrants eating cats and dogs. I’m not a lawyer, but I always understood libel/slander suits to be tough to prove because you have to show that the liar knew the story was false and knew or should have known it could cause harm, or spread it in order to cause harm. Many times it’s tough to prove one or the other parts of that, but here we have Vance admitting to making it up and Trump’s history of demonizing immigrants and calling for violence against groups or individuals he doesn’t like - and his supporters’ history of responding to such calls. How many people who testified against Trump, or participated in lawsuits against him or otherwise criticized him publicly, have received death threats? It would be hard to say he would be unaware that could happen. Again, not a lawyer, but looks to me like they have a decent case. ---

It’s my understanding that groups can’t sue for defamation only individuals, so unless Trump and Vance singled out a specific Haitian that they said ate cats they can’t be sued of defamation. But as Procrustus says they aren’t going that route. The criminal route as also going to be a non starter. In order to be criminal either they would have to order the bomb threats directly or they would have to incite, in which case the actions would have had to taken place almost immediately after Trump and Vance made their statements. In fact there aren’t any direct crimes listed in the complaint. This is really just a publicity stunt to draw attention to Trump and Vance’s misdeads.
