Ah, but there wouldn’t be. If one bus carries 40 drivers back to the parking lot, those 40 drivers get in their cars and go back to the rally site. Then it’s only 40 cars showing up together.

The number of bus seats was a limited resource; it makes logistic sense to use them as beneficially as possible. It would have been tough, maybe impossible, to organize on the spot, but might have made a bad situation a little better.

And yet the election is still too close to call. I know it’s been said before, but I just don’t get it. I can’t wrap my mind even a little bit around the fact that he’s going to get somewhere between 45 & 50% of the vote.

I watched that [interview](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGgxTFYF844) and would disagree with the Rolling Stone headline. Yes, on a factual basis Trump failed miserably. He would never answer any of the questions, and what he talked about instead was entirely disjointed from reality. But he was reasonably articulate in the weave and oddly mesmerizing, sort of like a Garison Keiler Lake Woebegone monologue. If one had no knowledge of economics, or history or political science or current events, and was under the impression that Trump was mostly truthful. It would be easy to be convinced that Trump was very knowledgeable and the interviewer just didn’t understand how these things worked.

As for Micklethwait getting challenging Trump to get back on track I didn’t see that at all. What would happen is that Micklethwait would ask a question, Trump would use half a sentence to pivot and then go on this long monologue about whatever story he wanted to tell which all ended with everyone in the world being so impressed with him and bowing to his every whim to make America great again. Then eventually Micklethwait would interrupt him with a new question and the process would start again. He tried a few times early on to nail Trump down, but then after a few questions realized the futility of it and just let him weave.

Don’t forget that at least one third of Americans don’t vote, so it’s only 45-50% of the remaining two-thirds that are assholes.

I don’t know if the percentage of assholes is really that high. A lot of MAGA supporters are just flat out ignorant and they tend to do mental somersaults when confronted with facts that contradict their worldview. My MAGA mother is pro-choice and blames the Democrats for Roe v. Wade being overturned. She blames the Democrats for not doing enough to stop Roe from being overturned but does’t hold Trump or MAGA responsible.

I refer you to my transcription of his answer to the question of how he would reduce government spending;

“When I first sat down, a general came into my office and he said, ‘Sir, it’s nice to meet you, would you please sign this?’ I said, ‘What is it?’ It’s a contract for a new Air Force One, which is actually a contract for two planes, not one, two Boeing 747s, And I said, ‘How much is it?’ $5.7 billion. That’s a hell of an expensive plane, but there’s reasons for that. I said, nope, I’m not signing it. Who negotiated it? Barack Hussein Obama. I said I’m not signing it. Why? Because there’s a lot of fat. But we should have a new Air Force One. When we see these planes from Saudi Arabia, brand new, and ours is, like, 32 years old, and it’s a very different plane, it’s a much smaller plane, the whole thing. The United States should have the best plane, I will tell you.”

And for the record; “the weave” isn’t a real thing. That’s Trump realizing that he’s no longer speaking cogently and trying to pretend that he meant to do that.

I remember these people posting on social media back in 2016 about how Trump is this genius, successful businessman and he is always the smartest person in the room. Apparently, a lot of them thought _The Apprentice_ was real. Some of the ones I knew personally had no idea about Trump’s bankruptcies or failed businesses. Anything bad said about him was just jealousy.

Why do interviewers and debate moderators keep letting this happen? It’s maddening. Why is the media so fecking frightened of shutting this stupidity down, or at least acknowledging it? Rhetorical question, really; we know it’s corporate greed.

I can’t help but envision students in their history class 100 years from now, studying the 2nd American Civil War. They’ll be asked to explain what the causes were and one of the answers will be " the media was indifferent and in some cases complicit".

“Access journalism” has bred a generation of reporters who think their job is to be stenographers to the rich and famous. Just hold up the microphone, let them talk, and report what they said. Don’t look into whether it’s true or not, because if you’re mean to them they might let someone from another channel hold up the microphone instead.
