I think that saying should be amended to “History is written by the _writers_”, usually the writers belong to the winning group, but not always. ---

I was perusing the history section of my University Library once many (very many) years ago. I found it noteworthy how many Civil War history books were written by southerners. I came to the conclusion that history is written by the survivors. And even more so by the survivors who have an axe to grind. ---

Move on to the next thing. To the South, though, it’s an obsession. They’re going to write history books about it because they just can’t get over it. To quote the late, great Raul Julia, _“For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.”_ For the North, the Civil War was Tuesday. ---
