The usual fee is 1/3 the total award but the law team pays the expenses of the suit. A lawyer here in town says he charges 29% in his ads. I dunno about Ms Carrol but I could get by on the 5% interest from nearly $4-million left over and don’t forget, there’s another $83-million + still in the works when President Dumbass couldn’t keep his mouth shut. ---

A case like this might be an exception to what the attorney usually charges, for a variety of reasons. However, typically the fee is 1/3 or 40%, with an increase if the case is appealed. I wouldn’t be surprised if the lawyers got 45 to 50% of the gross. (which they certainly earned). Since this is a defamation suit (if I’m recalling correctly) and not personal injury, the proceeds are taxable income for Ms. Carrol. ---

It might not be strictly true but I’m remembering the last scenes in _Erin Brockovitch_ where her share of he PG&E Hinkley lawsuit, the largest at the time, was bumped to $2-million. ---
