It’s a weird brag. People care about their own finances. They hear “the economy is doing great” and their takeaway isn’t “hey, they’re doing a great job”, it’s “well, that’s not showing up on my paycheck or bills”. Then again, clueless and out of touch with the average American is par for the course with these clowns ---

I learned this the hard way in the Zimbawean economic crash in the late 90s, when a geriatric despot, struggling to remain in power, made incredibly stupid economic decisions to try to win over restless supporters. Over 1998/99, I had three 50% salary increases, but was left with far less buying power. I departed for South Africa before the real crash. The US one will, at least, be known to history as the “greatest depression” and named after the “greatest” president: the “Trump Depression”. ---
