I’m back at work, feeling icky but not deathly. Thanks for all the well-wishes … now I have to go back and read the whole thread. 🙂
The most beautiful thing has happened, though–it appears that with me out for two days, _nobody_ &$^#(ed anything up too badly. I’m terribly impressed.

Ha, that’s why it took me so long to get here…I got out of the trunk easy enough (Next time, how about some airholes, **Ex**?) but I had to sneak out of his garage and evade his wife, which really wasn’t easy. Boy, **Ex** , you really should clean up your garage, eh? Just looks bad.

Hey, **Lissla** , is Connie Willis’ new book out yet? My sister and I are both big fans, and I’d like to get it for her birthday. I checked Amazon, but I don’t think I want to order it, I just want to go into, say Borders and pick it up. Of course, that makes it difficult to resist the tempation to pick up some yaoi manga while I’m there, but I have that problem on Amazon, too, so there’s no avoiding it.
Yes, I know, I’m such a freak. I can’t help it.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I stayed home from work yesterday and drugged myself up on ibuprofen because my back was still all fubarred.
Frankly, it still hurts quite a bit, but it’s a little better today. I came in to work today because I just have too much that needs doing and I don’t want to be even further behind.
**Mr. Taters** went to the dentist yesterday and had a couple more teeth pulled, plus deep cleaning on one side of his mouth. Then they started discussing what they would do to replace the teeth that were pulled. At first they brought up a partial, which would cost 1400 dollars. My husband said he didn’t want to do that, so then they discussed basically fake teeth that are drilled into your jawbone. Three of them would cost eight thousand freakin’ dollars. Uh, we can’t afford that. What a racket! He’s going to have to go with the partial. Ah, we just need to win the damn lotto so we can pay for all his dental work, plus braces for the kids.
I guess I better do some work now.

Not sure, but I can check tomorrow at work. I didn’t know she had a new book out soon. Cool.
We got the novelization of _Vampire Hunter D: part 2_ in at work a couple of days ago. Oh, the pain. It’s the worst novel translating job I’ve ever seen. It’s a silly anime anyway, but… a novel? A non-graphic novel? Urgh.
Countdown to the new Diana Gabaldon and the new Terry Pratchett has begun. I’m so excited.
I singlehandedly unpacked and hoiked around at least 6oolbs of books in 3 hours last night. When I got to work there were two and a half head high stacks of big boxes, four deep. My manager told me that it wasn’t as important to get the _other_ head-high stack of books out, but could you please get these done? Hah. They can do the rest themselves this morning. Ow, my back.

Oh man, I forgot about the new Gabaldon! Thanks, **Lissla**! Of course, all I remember about the last one was where the gold was and that Bonnet got his naughty bits shot off … maybe I’ll have time to reread it. But not likely.
And now that I’ve read the entire thread, I’d like to add that just about two years ago, I lost a significant portion of tooth on a Bit O’ Honey candy.

I met my new neighbour this morning! She’s the one i originally thought was a burglar but it turns out she’s too small for that and she doesn’t wear stripey sweaters anyway. Plus the baby would be tricky to handle iffen she had a swagbag too. She parked her HUUUUUUUGE fridge/freezer at the top of our communal stairwell but she says she is gonna move it before i get my exercise bike delivered.
Whoooo i’m gonna be fit! And sophisticated cos i’m almost-haven’t-quite-been-told-yes-but-i’m-sure-it-will-happen-any-minute-now going to take French classes through my employer. Actually i won’t be fit and sophisticated i’ll be fit and \*tres chic \* 🙂

My vote is that she wants to make \*\*Sean \*\* the father of her baby _now_. Unfortunately, this is the kind where you still won’t be gettin’ any. Just like a soap opera! ‘Like spam in your mail box, these are the days of our MMP.’
I swear to og this is the suckiest computer that ever sucked. Powered by hamsters and built of \*cheese \* would be orders of magnitudes’sses better than this symphony of suckitude I’ve got here. Because then at least you’d have a snack and a lil buddy to play with when every part of it’s sucky self breaks. And IT never comes and then they can’t stay and won’t fix it because they either don’t have it or don’t know where it is.
D’you know that the guy in charge of getting computers fixed told me he couldn’t fix my e-mail until I e-mailed him a request to fix my e-mail. He was not joking.
Rats for lunch would not be good usually. Too many little bones and whiskers always get caught in your teeth.

I have already emailed that kitty litter cake recipe to two people and am considering printing it out. I’m so grossed out and repulsed … yet attracted at the same time. I love how they emphasize that you need to use a NEW container and pooper scooper. And, they could have called it a scoop. The “pooper” portion wasn’t necessary, I feel.

Many of you are probably wondering what the company breakfast menu was. Well, maybe some of you… Allright, only **magic** then. Turns out I got my date wrong and the breakfast is tomorrow morning. I DO know the menu though. It’s gonna be fast food breakfast food which probably means I will decline as it’s not on the Calorie Mizer’s list. Now, if they have Mimosas, I might just have one lil ole one. 😉

Speaking of which, I’ve got a secret admirer. He called me twice yesterday, and left voicemails that consisted of “\.” He then called me at about 2 in the morning (I was still up) and said “Oh, I didn’t expect you to pick up. This is awkward.” He’s sent me a few emails, but he’s not out of the closet, and won’t tell me his real name. This whole situation is pretty crazy, and I’m probably going to turn him down anyways. I don’t want to be some guy’s first.

We had a big launch at work today, with speeches and cake and new necklace thingies for our security badges to dangle from. The new department is now a reality! Well, at least we have a new name, and a new Minister and Deputy Minister (although they’re still Minister and DM of the old department, too). So, maybe not that much has changed, but now it’s all Official™! :rolleyes:
If I seem blasé, it may be because this is the fifth new department I have been reorganized into while still sitting at the same desk doing the same job. In this case, my original department was split into two a couple of years ago, for “improved efficiency” (although I still worked for both of them, just doing everything twice instead of once), and now, large bits of these two departments are being combined into a third new department, for, of course, “improved efficiency”. Now I get to do everything three times.
In other news, we finished off the last of Sunday’s Jamaican Pork last night. I do like Jamaican Pork. It’s a simple recipe, pork cooked in sort of a sweet & sour sauce with pineapple, green pepper, and pickles, and served over rice. It’s something my mother made sometimes for dinner when we came to visit and I got the recipe from her. A side benefit is that, now our daughter is gone, it makes enough for 3 meals, so 2 days of no cooking!
I made chocolate chili once (there, chocolate and chili in the same post!). It had a large amount of bitter-sweet chocolate in it. I like chili but don’t like bitter-sweet chocolate and am not terribly crazy about chocolate in general, but Mrs B is a chocoholic and part of my share of the cooking is to make all the exotic furrin stuff, so I gave it a go. Mrs B hated it. I loved it. She won’t let me make it again.
We have mice in our attic. We were out back looking over the garden when I noticed a mouse scurrying across the lawn. I pointed it out to Mrs B, and we watched it run across the grass 🙂 , up the brick wall :dubious: , and into a teeny little gap in the mortar at the top of the wall :eek: . I’m quite happy with the critters living under the garden shed in the summer, and inside in the winter, but no rodents in the house!
I may have to turn the cats loose, although that didn’t work too well the last time. In our old house, we also had a rodent problem once - we could here scurrying in the attic. I got out the stepladder and poked my head up to look around with a flashlight, then was suddenly used as a launch pad by Tabby, who had climbed the ladder and jumped up on my shoulder. She came back with a dead mouse as a present for me (she liked to share, and regularly left mice on the porch for us after forays in the field at the end of the street). After that, she would climb any ladder she saw, looking for the mice at the top, and we were continually getting her down from the roof and other high places. She could go back down the ladder if she really had to, but preferred to sit up there and wait for rescue.

If we get a quote we can live with, we’re replacing all the crappy, ancient double-hung windows and storm windows in the house. They’re originals - circa 1975 - and not very good at keeping heat and/or cold out according to the season. Plus some of them are really hard to open, which makes changing the storm windows a chore and a half.
The first guy was too much of a salesman - we’ll see how he does when he comes back tomorrow evening. The contractor who works with Lowe’s is due here any time - we’ll see what he has to say.
I suppose we could just caulk and weatherstrip the dickens out of the extant windows and go for another season, but our thinking is that once rebuilding in the south starts, the cost and wait for construction products is apt to go up.

Yay! I’m glad Anaamika’s back and wasn’t sick or anything terrible. Although being locked in Ex’s trunk doesn’t sound all that good! Glad you got out ok.
I’m tired today. After work yesterday I went rollerblading, did laundry, and made tomato sauce. (I bought tomatoes at a farm stand during the day and then realized I’m busy tonight and tomorrow night so I had to make the sauce last night.) Sauce from fresh tomatoes is good, but boy is it a lot of work! I think I’m done for the season now. I just don’t want to have to chop up any more tomatoes! At least I can put that in the freezer and have it for a while. Along with the pesto I put in there over last weekend.
Lotsa good food in my freezer, but I’m tired of making it now!
