A plea to (maybe) save us from T

Burning it down is the point. Only an insane person can do that and so that’s why a good chunk of people vote for him.

Back in 2016, Indivisible wrote that this isn’t a sprint: it’s a marathon. You don’t have to do everything. So pace yourself. Do what you can when you can. There’s a 50% chance that Trump will be elected and even if he isn’t, we might have to go to demonstrations depending upon what shenanigans Trumpists try to pull.

Text banking is another option for introverts (though some introverts do surprisingly well on the telephone).

This thought just sort of occurred to me, so I’m sure it’s extremely flawed;

With MAGA, perhaps we should just shut their asses out, unless there’s a NEED to communicate, just ignore all the stupid fucking bullshit they say… How do you engage with such dishonest people? Act like they’re children, which is an insult to children.

IDK, Just a hypothetical.

The first lesson I was taught about any kind of canvassing is that you don’t argue with anyone who’s clearly committed to The Other Lot - that’s just a waste of time. What you’re about is identifying firm supporters (so that, one hopes, there’ll be follow-up to make sure they vote and maybe become an activist themselves) and also those who might be persuadable, and whatever issue is most likely to sway their vote your way.

But be careful of those friendly folk who want to drag the conversation out just to make sure they’re wasting your time. Over here there are occasional reports of the proverbial sweet old lady that invites the canvasser in to discuss the matter over a cup of tea, disappears to the kitchen and, oh dear, “forgets” she’s locked them in the living room.

Removing all the spin and campaign fluff, I think it’s fair to say this about the economy:

Presidents get more blame and more credit than they deserve.

When Trump compares today’s economy to his, when he says “4 years ago” he really means “5 years ago”.

Trump inherited a good economy and didn’t run it into the ground. And then Covid happened.

The response to Covid (from both the Trump and Biden’s administrations) was to flood the economy with free money, to keep unemployment benefits flowing and small businesses afloat. This inevitably led to inflation. Inflation has returned to normal levels but prices are still high.

This is not what led to inflation. It was supply chain problems and every country experienced it, many worse than the US. I will not blame that on Trump–or Biden.

The government giving away money for COVID relief and the huge Trump tax cut both had inflationary repercussions. There’s far more involved, Trump can’t be held responsible for all of the inflation any more than Biden can. He did do his part though.
