I also had trouble finding the new coins - I went to every bank up and down the highway where I work for about a month until they finally started getting in adequate supplies (they’d either not gotten them in yet or kept running out - hey, they’re new, people are grabbing them up, not hoarding them).
I’ve also found that about half the vending machines take them and half don’t. I’ve also found you can get them from any place you buy public transit tickets - if they have to give you back dollars in change, that’s what they use. Up until now the only place I’d ever seen Susan B’s was using public transit, so now they’re switching to the Sackies.
Oh, and Sackies are exactly the same size as Susan B’s for just this reason (vending machines), but they have a smooth edge instead of serrated, and a wide border along the face to help distinguish them from quarters. Oh, and they’re golden.
There was another Sackie thread here in MPSIMS a while ago.
Well, I went down to the goddamn stamp machine about an hour ago, fed in a goddamn twenty-dollar bill and bought a buck’s worth of goddamn stamps, and got nineteen goddamn SUZIES for change.
I think before the new dollars can really circulate generally, the paper ones will have
to go. The problem is that most retailers
have five coin boxes in their cash drawers and use the fifth for spare rolls. They don’t really have a good place to put another coin. Eliminating the $1 bill would provide a free space in the currency part of the cash drawer. I hope the 2 doesn't then start circulating; even that's too low a denomination for paper, by current standards. I'd like to get to a point where we use coins and 5 for all small purchases.
In the meantime it can’t hurt to obtain Sackies and then spend them conscientiously
in any situation where we’d otherwise have used a bill.
