We’ve all heard the claim that the Wii is being bought by a lot of non-gamers and personally, I think there’s some truth to it. I’m curious to see if it’s true. I was thinking about it and I figured that new or non gamers would not buy or play as many games as gamers and that they would pick different games so I came up with a poll. And yes, I realize that non-gamers are less likely to visit the Game Room to begin with but there’s not much I can do about that. **1. How long have you owned your Wii? 2. What games do you own? 3. Do you consider yourself to be a gamer?** I would say, “I guess so.” I think that I play enough games since getting my wii to be considered a gamer. Before owning it I didn’t really play games at all. I sold my gamecube to a friend years ago. I played PC games a lot more in high school (7 years ago). I’m actually surprised at how many Wii games I’ve played since I got it now that I look at the full list. ---

**1. How long have you owned your Wii?** About 8 months. **2. What games do you own?** Wii Sports Twilight Princess Super Paper Mario Zack and Wiki **3. What games have you rented/borrowed?** Wario Ware Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Wii Play **4. What consoles do you/have you owned (including hand held consoles)?** Almost all of the major ones from the Atari 2600 onward. I’ve never owned a Game Gear, PS3, or PSP. **5. Do you consider yourself to be a gamer?** Absolutely. My wife actually bought the Wii for me and I only play it occasionally. I like having it for system exclusives and the Virtual Console. For cross platform titles though, give me a traditional controller and HD graphics please. ---

**1. How long have you owned your Wii?** Since April '07, so about 11 months now. **2. What games do you own?** Presuming you mean Wii-only games: Wii Sports Twilight Princess Metroid Prime 3 Elebits Rayman Raving Rabbids Super Smash Bros. Brawl Super Mario Galaxy I think there may be more, but I can’t recall them right now. There’s also a host of Gamecube games that I still play using the Wii. **3. What games have you rented/borrowed?** I don’t rent, as a general rule. **4. What consoles do you/have you owned (including hand held consoles)?** NES Game Boy Game Boy Color Super NES Sega Genesis Game Boy Advance Nintendo 64 Playstation (first one) Dreamcast Gamecube X-Box (not 360) Wii I also intend to buy the 360 at some point. **5. Atari 2600 NES Gameboy Gameboy color Sega Genesis N64 GameCube I have in the past had extended possession of a playstation and a Super NES, but they weren’t mine. 1. Do you consider yourself to be a gamer? Not anymore. I can play for stretches when I feel like it, but when I start to get frustrated (for example, I have 119 stars in SMG but that last one requires running around on spinning/disappearing floors with bad camera angles and is just annoying), I just turn it off. I’m more into the casual stuff now. ---

Do you consider yourself to be a gamer?** Yes. I took kind of an extended break for a few years after graduating college. At the time I was playing a lot of Dreamcast and GameCube. Graduation, new job, engagement, marriage, and new house kind of intruded and I stopped playing games often. Then over the past year or so I picked up a DS Lite, Wii, and (finally!) PS2. Lately I’ve been mostly catching up on all the PS2 games I missed during my drought, but also playing a bit of new stuff on Wii. (In all honesty, the Wii was an unexpected gift, and while I _love_ it, I probably would have picked up a PSP and PS3 before I got around to buying it myself.) ---

Do you consider yourself to be a gamer?** Before I discovered arcades, I was a pinball machine addict at bowling alleys and other such places. From the late 70s/early 80s on I’ve been pretty serious about gaming. I spent sacks full of quarters in arcades in the early 80s, bought several of the early home video game systems. I was primarily an arcade gamer though until the NES started to release some genuinely good titles. In the era of the Genesis/SNES, I didn’t play console video games very much as I felt the market had shifted more towards children’s games and there weren’t as many titles I was interested in. I played PC games mostly from 1992-1996 or so, with the release of the PlayStation I felt that more games for adult audiences were being pushed and I’ve played consoles heavily since that time (though I still play a lot of games on the PC as well.) So yeah, I consider myself a gamer :p. I tend to like a lot of genres. My favorites are " twitch-reflex" type games that are similar to the arcade games of the early 80s which relied solely on fast reflexes and decision making, turn-based strategy games, puzzle games, and first person shooters. I’ve never been a huge fan of platform games or racing games. I mostly bought the Wii for the virtual console and because Nintendo typically releases a few system-exclusive games every generation that are “must play.” ---

What games do you own?** Wii Sports Twilight Princess Sonic and the Secret Rings Wario Ware: Smooth Moves Metroid Prime 3 Super Paper Mario Mario Strikers Charged! Mario Party 8 Resident Evil 4 DDR: Hottest Party Super Mario Galaxy The Simpsons Game No More Heroes Super Smash Bros: Brawl! 1. What games have you rented/borrowed? None other than what I’ve bought, really. 2. What consoles do you/have you owned (including hand held consoles)? My last console was the Sega Master System (but see below). 3. Do you consider yourself to be a gamer? Hard to say. The reason I haven’t owned a console in so long was that college, med school, and residency didn’t allow much time (or money) for gaming. (It could have, but I had other ways I wanted to spend my very limited time and money.) I did a fair bit of PC gaming during that time, but I stayed away from the consoles because I knew they would eat up more time than I had to give. These days, when I’m happily employed, I’m still not somebody who plays every day, but when I do play I like fairly serious games. So it depends on how you define “gamer”. Sorry. For another data point, my wife is emphatically _not_ a gamer, and loves the Wii. ---

Other than Wii Sports, we have Wario Smooth Moves, Wii Play, Super Paper Mario, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario & Sonic at the Olympics…actually, I think that’s it. ETA: OH! And I downloaded **Elevator Action** from the Nintendo Store because that game has a special place in my heart. 🙂 3. None so far. 4. As a couple, we’ve had a Sega Genesis, a PS1 and PS2, and we currently own a PS3 along with the Wii. No handhelds. I’ve also owned an Atari 2600 and the original NES back in the day. 5. Not really. I tend to play sports games and the rare platformer. I’m not at all into FPSs or anything else. Maybe a good driving game once in a while. ---

The N64 and even the Gamecube might have done poorly, but from the original brick of a Game Boy on to the DS Lite, their handhelds have always been worth buying. EDIT: Unless you count the Virtual Boy as a portable console. That was a real :smack: moment for Nintendo, for sure.
