A practical use for my new iPad!

At his age, HE should be buying ME a new phone!

My market (Raley’s) is actually pretty good about putting up a sign if they move stuff, telling you where is was moved to. They also tell you where more of the product might be, like on an end cap etc.

I have two adult daughters, so I know you’re dreaming.

I used GroceryIQ on my iPod Touch for years, so I bought the same app when I found out the made it for the Android OS. I found I could take my whole list and transfer it over to my Motorola Cliq, since I have my phone with me more often than my iPod. The only thing I don’t like is it will duplicate items if I forget to check my history first and add something manually.

I used (and loved) SplashShopper for years: first on two different Palm PDAs, then on my BlackBerry. When I got my Droid in January it was the only app that I really missed, and none of the apps in the Market did quite what I wanted them to do. So I created a Google Docs spreadsheet. Three columns: one titled “nd” (for “need”), one for the item name, and one for the aisle. The sheet is sorted by aisle. When I need something I put a “y” in the “nd” column, then when I get to the store I filter that column so that only “y” items appear.

The only thing I still miss is the ability to subtotal my purchases as I check things off the list. I keep a running total in my Droid’s calculator, and that works ok, but SplashShopper used to do it for me (and I didn’t have to constantly switch between apps).

Until SplashShopper is available for Android, though, I’m pretty darn happy with my spreadsheet.

The feature we’d be missing with anything I’ve found out there is: the ability to track aisles separately by store. The Google Docs approach might work there: a separate aisle column per store - then hide the columns for all the stores except the one you shop in.

Must think about this… this would work as an acceptable alternative…

We don’t bother so much with the price but I guess you could have a column for price and then just input it as you toss the stuff into the cart.

(oh, and dammit! I thought our decision was made for the next couple of years, LOL).
