I’ve no doubt you are, considering how consistently succesful you’ve been at conveying your views here on the SDMB, and convincing others of their merit. By all means, get as involved in the next anti-marriage campaign as you possibly can. With any luck, you’ll end up as a national spokeman. I can’t think of anything that could be of more value to the gay rights movement, then to have someone such as you as our most prominent opponent.

Admit it, you were wrong when you said there were “no differences.” Man up.

Given that most marketing is a mixture of lies, half-truths, and obfuscatory language designed to get people to buy things they don’t need or aren’t good for them, i have no doubt that you’re a master.

Will do. But you’d be surprised at the stuff I’ve gotten people to buy. And I’m as dissuaded here by my lack of success as I’d be arguing for my pro-choice position on a fundie site. But, nice try.

I provided a factual rebuttal of your position that domestic partnership is the same as marriage. You have not answered if you’d be willing to give up those 9 things, and why not, and why you think you deserve to have them when gays do not. Are they the quintessence of the specialness of marriage for you? Please explain.

Ahhh, who cares what he thinks is wrong. If this ever comes up again, I will vote the same way I did last time. Meanwhile, thanks to Ruby (?) for reposting that “go to Haiti” remark. It’s always nice to know how someone really feels, without the fancy semantics and window dressing.

Not quite. Though I’m not surprised this is lost on you. I delivered a direct slap to a specific poster. What you did is low and slimy—you tried to rally a mob. There is nothing more despicable and pathetic. Nothing so surely points to an insecure and weak mind as that. The fact that you don’t realize how low it is speaks volumes. You’re pathetic.

Did you read my answer? I said I’d like to know more of the reasoning, and that there might be a reason that the lists of rules and regulations (not "rights) would and should be different. Though I doubt it. I also said that my default would be that the same restrictions and rules apply to everyone, whether that means adopting what currently applies to married couples or those that apply to gay couples and making the rules the same for both. So, to the degree that it would make sense to remove a privilege currently afforded heteros, yes, I’d be happy to do without it. In all these discussions I’ve consistently argued for one set of laws, rules, and regulations.

More name calling from you, no surprise here. You really don’t like being called on your disgusting behavior. Wishing that someone would get AIDS (a “direct slap” indeed) is less despicable and slimy than mentioning the number of someone’s posts to a thread (information available to everyone with one mouse click)? Wow, you have some really skewed ideas about what’s despicable, but we knew that. Rally a mob? RALLY A MOB? To do what? Potentially ignore your hateful blatherings about gay marriage? If you are going to vote to deny people certain rights and privileges, and you claim to care about those people and want them to have equal rights, doesn’t it behoove you to know what you’re denying them and why? Clearly you do not, since those 9 differences were news to you. You expect me to explain each of those 9 differences to you, complete with their rationales? Why, so you can still dismiss them as unimportant and unncecssary, as you already have without knowing the rationale behind them?

You just don’t get it, do you. He insulted me. I slapped him back. Mano a mano. Let him come back with his stupid shit or go away. That’s between two people. What you did, and I see it fairly often on these boards, is try to rally a crowd. “Oh look what we have here boys, one of _those_. We don’t like that kind do we. Maybe we should teach him a lesson.” It’s a cowardly tactic. Fallacious, as it is an appeal to the masses. And seeks to squash dissent. The actions are the actions of the mouthy runt in a gang. It’s low, cheap, and pathetic. Aside from the merits of the SSM debate, it would do you well to chew on that. If you don’t feel pathetic for doing it, you haven’t thought about it long and hard enough. It’s as simple as that.

First, as I’ve pointed out, those differences are so minor as to not matter. “Ooooo, some one is infringing on my write to submit my forms to the County Clerk.” Give me a fucking break. And I didn’t expect or ask you to provide the rationales, I said that I’d like to understand the rationales for each because I couldn’t image why the difference existed. So, excuse me for wanting to know why something was done before I opined if it was a good idea or not. And again, my preference is for the rules and regulations to be as equal as the rights they lead to.

Again, another Kreskin who knows what I voted for better then I do. More comedy gold.

No, you just don’t get it. You wished AIDS on someone for disagreeing with you. To say you lack a sense of proportion is a generous assessment of your behavior. I think it’s disgusting and over the top and uncalled for. You, of course, never examine your own behavior, and think it’s fine to wish that someone who disagreed with you should get AIDS. Bet you also think you’re a nice guy.

Not on a public message board it’s not.

> [@](#):
>
> What you did, and I see it fairly often on these boards, is try to rally a crowd.

Oh, is THAT what I did, O Amazing Kreskin? It couldn’t be that I was pointing out that, once again, you have dominated a discussion on gay marriage? You can construct motives for me out of whole cloth, but even if I was trying to “rally the crowd,” what exactly do you think that crowd (already pretty much completely against you, btw), would do with that information? Realize that you’re obsessed with this topic, maybe? And do what they will with it. If you don’t want people to know that you post excessively to gay marriage threads, then don’t do it. If you don’t care, then don’t get angry at me for mentioning it. It’s a matter of public record, after all.

> [@](#):
>
> Maybe we should teach him a lesson." It’s a cowardly tactic. Fallacious, as it is an appeal to the masses.

Teach you a lesson? How so? What lesson could I possibly teach you? I didn’t post it expecting any particular outcome, merely to note that, once again, you have taken over a thread about gay marriage. I don’t see what’s cowardly about that. I think it’s pretty direct. And fallacious? No, it’s a matter of FACT. The FACT is that you are the one who has posted 47 times to a thread where the next most prolific poster has posted 29 times. It’s pointing out a fact that is there for anyone to see. What’s cowardly is voting to take away people’s rights, and then getting all huffy when people don’t love you for it.

> [@](#):
>
> And seeks to squash dissent. The actions are the actions of the mouthy runt in a gang. It’s low, cheap, and pathetic. Aside from the merits of the SSM debate, it would do you well to chew on that. If you don’t feel pathetic for doing it, you haven’t thought about it long and hard enough. It’s as simple as that.

How does anything I’ve done “squash dissent”? Oh, poor persecuted magellan01! I’ve pointed out his monomaniacal obsession with the topic of gay marriage has again resulted in his domination of thread about it! That’s somehow inciting a mob and it’s wrong! Do you hear how ridiculously whiny that sounds? I think you should consider why you feel the need to drown out the other voices who post in these threads, every single time it comes up. But you won’t. You’ll just keep constructing imaginary scenarios where you are being victimized by the mere notation of the number of your posts, while saying horrible things to anyone who disagrees with you.

If you don’t feel pathetic for wishing AIDS on someone, then no, I don’t feel pathetic for posting your post count to this thread. I’d do it every single day before I’d wish a deadly disease on someone from the comfort of my anonymity for the heinous crime of disagreeing with me.

> [@](#):
>
> First, as I’ve pointed out, those differences are so minor as to not matter.

You didn’t read them carefully, and also admitted that you want them explained because you don’t really understand them. How you can, in the next breath, dismiss them as not important, I don’t know. You are speaking out of ignorance.

> [@](#):
>
> So, excuse me for wanting to know why something was done before I opined if it was a good idea or not. And again, my preference is for the rules and regulations to be as equal as the rights they lead to.

So why don’t you DO SOME RESEARCH and find out why it was done before you a) claim there are no differences when there are, b) state that they don’t matter without understanding them, and c) vote to remove access to them from gays? Or would that be too challenging for your worldview?

> [@](#):
>
> Again, another Kreskin who knows what I voted for better then I do. More comedy gold.

You voted for Prop 8. By doing so, you voted to remove those 9 rights and privileges from gays. That is, factually, what you did. Your motivations for doing it are irrelevant. The vote does not come with commentary. It’s a simple yes or no question. If you did NOT want to remove those rights, then you should NOT have voted for Prop 8, because all your rhetoric aside, that’s exactly what your vote did. It’s as easy and plain as that.

magellan01, it goes far beyond just Prop 8 and just those particular rights and privileges that California already grants through civil unions. You’ve stated that you want one set of rules, you want equality of rights, you just don’t want gays to use the word marriage.

What you’re missing is that gays will NEVER have equality of rights unless they get to use the word marriage. You state blandly that gays already have “all of the rights” of marriage and Prop 8 doesn’t change that. Sure, within the borders of California, outside of CA they have no rights at all. You doesn’t seem to be terribly disturbed by this, and you should be.

The defeat of Prop 8 wasn’t the end of the journey, it was one step towards getting gay relationships recognized as being equal to straight relationships. One step towards getting real equality, and gays didn’t even get to take it.
