# A Question about long usernames?

Isn’t it any way possible to not be alloved to have  
so damn loooooooong user names.  
Check the MPSIMS now,  
how you have to scroll at the bottom of the site  
to be able to read it all.  
It’s just a bit irritating.

While there is a maximum amount of characters in a username ([apparently, it’s 25](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=33500)), there is no strict rule that states a username should be smaller than that. We do, however, reserve the right to change objectionable screen names. Such as the one in the linked thread above.

It depends on your monitor settings as well, of course. I’ve never had the Horizontal Scroll Bar of Death here at home, where I’m running 1024\*768 (?) on a 17". But I’ve seen it appear in other places. Uusually, it requires a thread starter and/or last poster to a thread to have a long name, and/or a long thread title appearing on the same page.

Just one of those things, I guess. Tweaking your monitor settings a bit might help you out in most cases.

I don’t think it’s scrolling because of long usernames. It’s scrolling because of the title of [This thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=74697). The title has no spaces, so the software doesn’t break it to a second line.
