Do you feel encouraged?
I was listening to a couple of the young 'uns at work discussing the expression “Now you’re cooking with gas!” and one of them opined that it had something to do with the advent of propane grills. If I wasn’t in the middle of something, I’d have had to smack him. I’ve got a headache, so I’m caffeinating. I suspect, tho, that it’s the lack of sleep that’s messing with my skull. At least this weekend I can transition back to some sense of normalcy - at least with regards to my schedule. We get to mow the yard this weekend. And go to the convenience center with 2 cans of garbage and 2 big bags of recycling. Oh yeah, we know how to fill our weekends with wild times. Stand back and watch us go…

reality check -
I don’t[ul]
[li]own a business suit[/li][li]have a piece of paper that says I studied the stuff in college[/li][li]look “socailly acceptable”, size-wise[/li][li]have a lot a of respect of abused authority (middle and upper management types so full of themselves and act like they’re the policy makers)[/li][/ul]
so, really, is there a point in applying?

Go, **rosie** , go! What’s the worst that could happen? They say no, and your life goes on. Unless there are politics at your job about transfer applications? Haven’t you mentioned before that you’re at the top of your pay band/scale? Even if this one didn’t work out, it still gets your name out there.
I’m on the leg of my sock! I’m so excited - it still looks like a sock! The trick is to finish the second sock. This will be difficult, since I received [this](http://www.amazon.com/New-Pathways-Sock-Knitters-Book/dp/0970886969/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-9217151-2731216?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1187900253&sr=8-1) book last night. It’s incredible. A totally different way of looking at socks. There are a lot of $65+ baby booties in there (cashmere AND Sea Silk? On a **baby**?), but it’s the master patterns that are the meat of the book. I can hardly wait to cast on for the practice socks.
ETA: Rosie, so you buy an affordable business suit, put your resume together, and go for it anyway. On the other hand, it sounds like you really don’t like the place you work for? If that’s the case, go for it anyway, and use it as practice for interviewing for a new job.

I am comfortable in my current position. The supervisors pretty much leave me alone to get the work done (other supervisors micro manage and check up on their staff every hour: “what are you working on? when will you be finished?” CONstantly. not mine.) It would be a very big step in a totally different environment. Like I said - I’m chicken.

Are you seriously asking us to support you, or are you looking for a reason not to take a shot at a bigger paycheck?
because if you are qualified for it, all those reasons you give for not trying can be ignored or overcome.

I think in our world, “comfortable” is another way of saying “brainless” – you can get throiugh the day without exerting yourself too much, and do a good job, but nothing to write home about.
You’ve still got… what, certainly near 20 years to retirement? You want to keep doing the same old, same old until then!?

I ordered my first book off of Amazon today; I had a gift certificate I needed to use so I ordered Charles de Lint’s _Widdershins_. I love his books.
Why oh why is Magic licking my cleavage? I feel like I’ve had dermabrasion. Weird cat.
Today is Mr. SCL’s day off but one of the other nurses had a death in the family so he’s working. I went to buy cat litter and have to leave in a few minutes to feed librarian friend’s cats and pick up something for dinner. And some milk. Must remember milk.

**Rosie** , go for it!!! What’s the worst thing that they can say, No? Then you stay in your comfortable position that you are now.
Besides you can say no to them too if they offer you the job, if you decide you don’t want it. Why not apply? You have nothing to lose. Only experience to gain. Besides the MMPers send really good job and interview vibes. And fast too. 🙂

Major microburst here. Gust of wind that buffeted my car and knocked the power out in Flossmoor (neighboring town). VERY large branch down next to our back deck, but no house/deck damage.
I came home from work to heat and sun. #1 son called to be picked up from school–it was starting to cloud over. T-storms were due tonight. I left #2 son at home (trip to the HS is 10 minutes tops)–the Storm hit just as I got to the HS. I called home on my cell and #2 didn’t pick up. Very scarey, because now I’m hearing on the radio about the tornado warning and I’m hearing the tornado siren. Get #1 son and try to get home. #2 son finally picks up-he’s on the other line with the Husband–IN the basement. Phew. Evade flying garbage cans and tree debris to get home. We all hung out in the basement. Daughter is now home (field hockey practice was cancelled–ya think?!?).
Storm moving off to IN and MI. Yikes (and I like storms!).
I would not have left if I knew there was a possible tornado coming. I had had the radio on all the way home from work–not a hint of this. (I got home 30 minutes prior to getting #1 son).
All’s well.
Yay on possible promotions–get your resume in gear,\*\* Rosie\*\*!
I wish I could have an affair. No one ever asks ME to have an affair. Hmmph.
