Agreed, after the 1994 and 2002 elections I remember hearing about how the Dems were doomed, and would end up like the Whigs. The bottom line is that Romney lost by 4 points, but those same voters reelected a GOP House.
There’s tweaking to be done, just like after every loss, (especially towards Hispanic voters; we need to get real about that issue) but the “OMG the Republicans have to allow legal abortions and gay marriage and a 50% marginal tax rate on the rich or else they will NEVER EVER be elected dog catcher again” nonsense is ridiculous. When a candidate loses 70-30, then we will talk about drastic changes needed.
That has more to do with how Congressional districts are constructed than anything else. But I agree it’s kind of stupid to talk about the Republicans being doomed when they’re getting 46 or 47 percent of the vote in presidential elections.
Right, but those districts are constructed that way because people elect state legislators who make the districts who elect the Congressman…but I don’t know why she swallowed the fly.
Point is that we agree that neither party is in any danger of disappearing anytime soon, recent threads and opinions notwithstanding.
There are many GOP senators, and representatives who are just slimeballs, from what I see of them in the news.
The GOP is led by lunatics who have no understanding of human biology and attempt to regulate it down into the cellular level. Freaked-out-evangelicals are tripping balls over most ordinary human behavior and they can be seen screaming about it on Fox news.
The GOP doesn’t understand how the environment work and they don’t seem to give a damn about ending dependency on fossil fuels.
I did see Rick Snyder trying to sell “right-to-work” and Rick Scott explain why people who need welfare need to be tested for drugs. I watched Scott Walker trying to bash Wisconsin on the news too.
As a woman, it makes me sick to hear about legitimate rape, and rape pregnancies, transvaginal ultrasounds and the continued attempts to deny people access to birth control from people who don’t even know how their own bodies work.
I try to watch Fox News but more than 5 minutes at a time makes me go HULK SMASH on the tv and I really can’t afford to replace tv sets every few months. Fox News gives time to people like Suzanne Venker, Sarah Palin and Richard Mourdock, and I don’t care to watch such views from people like them.
Good luck with that rebranding thing while the lunatics are running the asylum.
