> The division will be won or lost on pitching, and IMO the Bosox are still ahead in that regard. A-Rod will help the Yankees substantially, but I still think Boston can be considered the favorite to win the AL East - at the very least they are still highly competitive.

While I would never say that Boston is a favorite (I would have to go into Witness Protection if I did), I absolutely agree on this point. We still have basically no pitching, what with Andy and that fat bastard going to Houston (in my defense, I have always hated Clemens, not just b/c of the 'stros thing) and no Wells. As many teams prove time and time again, you win the game with pitching. You can’t rely on your team scoring 14 runs every game!

Well, true - Of course the Beaneaters can’t be considered a favorite even when they are up by two and the other team is down to their final strike . . . 😃

> 1. The Rangers benefit. Freed from an unwieldy contract that prevented them from building a championship caliber bullpen they can now move forward and continue developing what should be a very goood team in a few years.

Considering all the money the Rangers spent after giving ARod that contract, it’s hard to argue that it was the contract preventing them from building a championship caliber bullpen.
