What is it, I wonder, that makes Putin so likable to them, and Obama so unlikable? Hmm… :dubious:
This was posted by another Doper but I think it is worth repeating:
"That deal between Exxon and Rosneft was said to be a $500 billion deal.
And that was before they discovered a brand new oil field in the Kara Sea,
just north of Siberia.
So, $500 billion deal between two of the largest companies in modern
history, the two largest oil companies ever, half trillion deal. And that
was before they discovered a new billion barrels of oil they weren’t
expecting.
And then the whole thing fell apart. Right after they discovered the
billion barrel field, the whole thing got stopped in its tracks because of
sanctions. That messed with Ukraine and Putin invading Crimea, the Obama
administration punched them in the face with sanctions. And the biggest
deal anybody had ever heard of, one of the biggest commercial deals in the
history of deals was stopped.
You know who would be in an excellent position to undo those sanctions?
Well, you would expect the American secretary of state to be in a good
position to do that. Rex Tillerson, the CEO of Exxon, personally holds
more than $150 million in Exxon shares."
It might be worth repeating if it was still true. It isn’t. He not only divested his Exxon positions stands to lose 180 million (donated to charity) if he works in the oil and gas industry in the next ten years.
Very few world leaders have great power. Leaders of small countries can’t do much. Leaders of constitutional democracies, e.g. most of the U.S.'s allies, can’t do much either — they answer to laws, Parliament, the public. That’s why Putin and Trump (or Bannon?) may literally be, by far, the most powerful men on the planet right now.
For Trump’s personal agenda it is very good to be cooperating with the powerful Putin. If Trump could somehow rein in Russian aggression, that would be good, but it seems much more likely that Putin will be emboldened by his control over the U.S. government. Russia is an unimportant country economically (except for its power to withhold natural gas from Central Europe). Russia is however a key military player and its interests are diametrically opposed to those of the U.S. Trump’s election means Assad-Putin will retain control of Syria, war will continue in Iraq, and countries on Russia’s borders will feel very threatened. This is all contrary to U.S. policy of past decades.
I’m doubtful about the blackmail tapes of Trump with whores. That wouldn’t tell us anything about Trump that he doesn’t already brag about himself. However, Trump has been allied financially with Russian oligarchs for decades, and several of his top appointees are also Russia’s men. He’s not a “puppet” or a “turned agent” but the effect may be similar … or worse: There’s a risk that Putin will feel he has the green light to commit a major aggression, that Trump will finally oppose his buddy, and major war could break out.
Have you met many Americans? George Carlin said it best: Think of how stupid the average American is, then realize 49% of Americans are even stupider than that.
Russian oligarchs have been financial partners with Trump for some time. What Trump (not America, Trump) gets out of being Putin’s lackey is convenience during any foreign crises. By having a staunch strong-militarey ally like Russia, Trump need not worry as much about the consequence of geopolitical or military moves … assuming he follows orders.
Oh. You’re one of those who looks at a poll result and considers just the >50% test. :smack: I’ll repeat the story of the Indian poll I once saw. The headline was “Indians want religious peace!” The poll result was something like “Only 37% of Indians want a pogrom against Muslims.”
I see Ravenman explained this more thoroughly:

As usual your remarks are too cryptic by half. Are you unaware of the financial ties between Trump and Russian oligarchs? Or done the Googling, but think that’s just more #FakeNews ?
Thank you DinoR for the updated information.
Tillerson doesn’t need to have exxon stock. He is a tool to get sanctions having to do with oil from russia being drilled lifted. You think by divesting he is all of the sudden objective about any of these matters?
Naive much?
Putin is an alpha male. Donald Trump is an alpha male. Obama is a beta male. Trump is vastly more intelligent than Obama and Trump realizes that good relations with Putin and Russia can actually be a good thing.
Remember when the not so bright Obama told Romney “The 1980s called and they want their foreign policy back?”
And now Russia is a problem all of a sudden again according to those lunatics, and by lunatics I mean the Democrats and a few Republican cucks who are nevertrumpers, and neither of them are looking out for this country or the American people.
Democrats should stick to making SNL sketches, because they’re not good for much else.
Out of all of the things on my list to be concerned over, Russia isn’t even on that list.
There are various, more pressing items that shall be dealt with first.

That brown shirt really accentuates the brown stain on the tip of your nose.
P.S. Fuck off, retard.
Another civil response and persuasive argument from the highly enlightened and deeply intellectual left I see.
Maybe the same reason why we didn’t care about Iran playing the Bush Admin vis-a-vis Iraq?
It’s just too much to process.
Internet troll laments downturn in civil discourse. Film at 11!
Do the Russians own you outright, or are they renting you by the hour?
No smart politician calls out the CIA in public. If you have an issue with them, you hash it out behind closed doors. Trump is arrogant and dumb. He won’t get away with it. The Republicans are already beginning to break ranks.
The roof is beginning to cave in on the Trump administration. As of now, Flynn appears to be unwilling to resign, and if forced, he will rat out Trump, Bannon, Pence, Miller.
We’ll see what happens with Flynn. He might “commit suicide”, die in an a car “accident”, or some other misadventure. Flynn is “a man in the way” and he may pay a huge price for that.
Quite the contrary. All evidence shows that my contention that he actively hates America is right on the money.
And all that money would help prop up Putin’s government in Russia and feed his war machine.
So now factor in the shit Trump and his minions have been saying about NATO.
And whatever cuts/favors/silence Trump is buying for himself.
All the puzzle pieces are there. Just put them together.
Bitch just can’t take it.
