A Scintillating MMP – and other nifty words

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{kai}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Hey MamaTigs, a question for you. I remember you saying that the VA hospitals can’t deliver the Christmas cards to the wounded vets. What about this Valentine’s card call in today’s Annie’s Mailbox?

And speaking of, I have declared this week Aunt-Agonistic, meaning I need to clear out the backlog so there’s new snark every day from today until Saturday. It’s my way of saying “Smile, dammit!”

Howdy all. Busy busy busy getting the new housemaid settled in and teaching her what she needs to do around the house (no small task when you factor in that she speaks no English and only broken Arabic). Tomorrow’s OP is writ and ready and will be posted tomorrow morning (my time - i.e. late Sunday for the Murkins amongst us).

{{{kai}}} When it rains, it d*mn well pours, honey! :frowning:

I forgot to say before, to doggio for the house-cleaning, beer-swilling uninvited houseguest!

It’s cold here again - overnight low of 9°C (48°F) expected. Not cold for most of you I expect, but when your house has no insulation, no central heating, 12 foot ceilings and tiled floors, it sure as hell feels cold!!! I need to go snuggle with my hubby and warm up some!

See you all in the morning!

Rigs, on your main home page of Facebook, look over to the box on the right, look for “groups” and click on it. That’ll give you all the groups you belong to and a few your friends belong to. Up at the top right corner is a button for “create group.” Click it and you’re on your way…

Listen up, missy kai! We are here for you. I tell you three times. You’re going through hell, everyone in your house is going through it too, you don’t feel right about dumping on others who’re also overwhelmed and we are RIGHT HERE to catch whatever you need to toss out. We are NOT overwhelmed, at least not by what you’re overwhelmed with–at worst your situation is a different kind of stress than our own and by definition easier to deal with. We don’t know Lucy, we’re outside the situation, all that we’re concerned about is how it affects YOU. Dump away, we have many broad shoulders, you can NOT overwhelm us–simply not possible, so stop worrying about that because you have plenty of real stuff to worry about. Yes, you probably are in shock and when it finally punches through you’re going to be a mess. Yes, you probably should go see a doctor and I’d recommend a grief counselor as well. Do NOT neglect yourself, people need you and YOU need you and WE need you, so TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. I tell you THAT three times as well. Am I getting through to you, missy? Don’t make me get my trout out! {{{kai}}}

The Gorge winds escalated last night into a wind warning–something hit our transformer and we had the power knocked out for an hour or so. Gusts up to 75 mph–and it’s a very scary sound! Lots of downed branches all over the place, a huge 25 foot limb fell off the neighbor’s tree but landed in the street and missed everything. This winter has been quite…interesting, weather wise!

I’m taking the Grandboy out for Powell’s book browsing and Indian food for lunch–he wanted to come spend the weekend but it’s kind of difficult when Himself has to work. I hope he can get a weekends off shift sometime soon–at least one weekend day, anyway. I miss having Grandboy over–he gives me an excuse to make blueberry pancakes! :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi Taters & Dotty! Welcome back!

Yikes, scary stuff there, gt! We also had a lot of sirens going off last night, hope nobody burned their house down with candles when the lights went out…

FCM, to fix that humidity issue I prescribe making a gigantic pot of soup or something that needs to simmer/boil for a long time. Or just put a big pot of water on the stove with a couple cinnamon sticks and some orange peel and let it rip. I bet our humidity is ridiculously low as well, especially with these winds… Well, lessee… 63%, but since we’re usually about 95% it just seems very low!

Howdy Y’all! Sneakin’ in a quick post at da cave before headin’ out to work. Today is my Monday. I get to work from 2pm-10pm. Rah.

{{{kai}}} I’m keepin’ you, Lucy and the family in my thoughts and prayers.

We went to church then to KFC for lunch. It’s warmer here too, but raining. Oh well, I suppose a cool rainy afternoon/evening spent at work is better than a warm sunny afternoon/evening spent at work.

Later Y’all!

Howdy, everybody. Slept well last night. Didn’t want to get up. Nothing new there, obviously.

Spaz, I have no idea about veterans’ hospitals, but the same rules do not apply there. And if VA Secretary Peake says it’s okay, then it’s okay, I would assume.

{{{kai}}} As Smarty said, we are here for you, you are not dumping excessively on us, we have broad shoulders, we’re not personally involved in the situation so we’re just here for you, and so do not worry about it! Dump away, and know that we really do care, even if we are comprised of imaginary pixels!

I should be working, but it occurred to me that nobody’s going to be working until Wednesday at the earliest, so I think I may watch the big concert from the Lincoln Memorial this afternoon instead. I contemplated going down to it in person for about .005 seconds, and then realized that I am just no longer prepared to stand for a long time, anywhere, for anything, so that’s out. (Although if I’d snagged an actual ticket to sit down for the inauguration itself, I would have just taken lots of extra drugs and dealt with the long lines and delays!) So that’s my exciting day. That and doing some laundry when Papa Tigs is done with his load of undies that he bleaches the hell out of. As far as I can tell, there are no women’s clothes made any more that will stand up to bleaching; they use such crappy, cheap fabric that it all falls apart rapidly if bleach touches it. So no bleach for me.

Off to try to finish a sock. I started an online knit-along back in October that lasted a five weeks, with a new “clue” being published each week so that we didn’t know how the final sock would look till the end, but I only got the first clue knitted before getting sidetracked by Christmas knitting. So I’m finishing them up because it’s a truly heavenly yarn, a blue-faced Leicester wool that is possibly the loveliest, softest wool I have ever encountered. I’m saving the shawl for Tuesday; since every other row is just purling across, I can put my feet up and work on it while watching all the Big Events.

Is it naptime yet?

Back from mass and have had some nice grilled cheese (cream cheese, pesto, cheddar) and beef barley soup. Now it’s on to GET STUFF DONE.

GT

Ta, Smarty. And now, what time is the inauguration on Tuesday? I seriously don’t know…

Pan cookies in oven. Banana bread made. Walks shoveled. I’m DONE. Time to do nothing. Yay!

11:30 Eastern.

This amuses me:
After President Obama gives his Inaugural Address, he will escort outgoing President George W. Bush to a departure ceremony.
Oh the possibilities that will never be realized because Obama is a classy guy.

Crap. The concert at the Lincoln Memorial? HBO bought the rights to the musical performances, so all anybody else showed was the speeches. Although, setting a personal best, Biden gave a speech that lasted for less than one minute. Considering his normal loquaciousness, that’s pretty amazing.

But since I don’t have HBO, I guess I won’t get to see the music after all. I wanted to see Pete Seeger again. :frowning: It takes me back to my early misspent youth. :frowning:

Here’s a link to an article that talks about all of the online coverage.

I’ve been listening to the inauguration concert that they just had in front of the Lincoln Memorial. Some of it was really cool. Some was kind of meh. But I think it would have been really cool to see in person. I’ve also been organizing pictures, taking down Christimas decorations, and knitting.

Forgot to mention that I also posted my pesto lasagna rolls recipe to the blog yesterday.

I’m about to get ready to go to dinner at a friend’s.

Happy Sunday, everyone!

BURP Indian food goooooooood! Grandboy managed to sprain his ankle a bit yesterday so a lot of walking was not in the cards today–but either one of us would go browsing at Powell’s even if we had to be brought in a bucket so that’s all good. I found a couple of interesting books in the sale racks and got Grandboy another copy of “Queen of Sorcery” since he wants to read the whole Belgariad and I seem to have misplaced my copy. Then off to the Indian buffet–not inspired food, but decent. Good dal, good sag paneer, the pakorma was irresistable and the tandoori chicken was fresh and hot and serviceable. Grandboy relaxed his vegetarian principles enough to mac down some chicken masala and a piece or three of the tandoori. He doesn’t succumb often, this is the first meat I’ve seen him eat since sometime in the summer. I made teriyaki chicken and he’s a sucker for it.

I’ve played ball with the enthusiasts–now I think it’s nap time!

It sleeted this morning, but didn’t stick. I’m eating green beans, Uncle Ben’s rice, and end of day deli fried chicken.

{{{{{kai}}}} Sorry about Lucy, and double what Smartie said.

Dotty, if your house cleaner doesn’t work out, you can borrow mine.

FCM, I had two strange women ring my doorbell, and ask if I wanted a good time. Since a. I was broke and b. didn’t want my kidneys stolen, I politely declined. It’s a quiet neighborhood, but ever once and a while it gets seriously weird.

Wish I’d seen this earlier… HBO was apparently broadcasting it for free, so if you had cable, you could have seen it. They were re-broadcasting at 7, but it’s probably over by now…

Going back to knitting and contemplating what to do with tomorrow…

GT

Heh, we had similar dinners. I had chicken nuggets, couscous and Brussels sprouts.

Morning all. New MMP is up! Enjoy!

Finally made it to the 'puter!

What a busy day we had! Almost like spring cleaning! It was a wonderfully pleasant 72° or so today. We opened up the windows and doors, and deep cleaned the bedrooms and Dad’s study. Shampooed the carpets and everything. Our goal was to get rid of excess dust, since we have the new AC and clean ducts now.

Mr Rebo will do the living room this week.

I’m tired! Six loads of laundry, I think, and the regular grocery shopping and putting-away. I boiled a chicken and picked the meat. And I made an awesome dinner! Ribeyes grilled to perfection, sauteed mushrooms, baked NOT’s and salad. And an apple/raisin/pecan strudel. (Remind me to post the recipe.) Yum! I’m stuffed.

So where the hell did the weekend go, I’d like to know? Back to work tomorrow, for FIVE DAYS IN A ROW! Jeez…

{{{Kai}}} - you vent away, you hear? We love you, and want to be here for you. You are not a “downer.”

Welcome home, Taters!

Yay for quality kid time, FCM. I had a little bit of that on Friday when I took ReboSon to lunch and we window shopped at the outlet mall. They have this cool “wishing well” thing that you spin a coin around this round thing and watch it spin smaller and smaller until it drops into a small hole. We spent about $3 in change, jusy being fascinated, and racing…

Everybody’s medical issues are stable. Yay!

Mañana!

EWWWWW!!! spaz said fart blossoms!

Howdy y’all. My Monday is over. It’s all downhill from here right? Actually it was a pretty quiet day. Busy but nobody nutted up over their cellphones. That constitutes a good day at work for me right now. Envy me!

Ok, gotta go beddy bye now cause I get to do this all over again startin’ around eight o’clock in the mornin’.

Nitey Nite Y’all!

Oi! Everybody out of the water! Fresh MMP-y water is over here!!!
