May it please you to name…

  1. Benvolio
  2. Lear
  3. Puck
  4. Titania
  5. Puck
  6. Shylock
  7. Romeo
  8. Hamlet
  9. Hamlet
  10. Richard III

10 was tough - went back and forth between Claudius, Richard, and Macbeth.
4 was surprisingly difficult to come up with any at all. Surprised there’s no “clown” category.
I was very tempted to name Blackadder or Baldrick for 1.

ETA: wow, no love for Richard III? I did also think of Iago, but Othello is probably the biggest-name Shakespeare play I’ve never seen in any format, so I guess he didn’t loom large in my mind.

  1. Beatrice
  2. King Lear
  3. Titania
  4. Gertrude
  5. Feste
  6. Shylock
  7. Viola
  8. Hamlet
  9. Romeo
  10. Iago
  1. Banquo
  2. King Lear
  3. Puck
  4. Cleopatra
  5. Ophelia
  6. Shylock
  7. Portia
  8. Julius Caesar
  9. Hamlet
  10. Iago

I think that, a, the tragedies and comedies are more familiar to most folks than the histories, and b, Iago is Shakespeare’s most villainous villain, with his motivations mostly being “I’ll be evil because I’m the villain and that’s what villains do”.

I was influenced by the Ian McKellan performance of Richard III as Hitler, I suppose.

  1. Brutus
  2. Lear
  3. Puck
  4. Lady Macbeth
  5. Ophelia
  6. Shylock
  7. Portia
  8. Julius Caesar
  9. Brutus
  10. Iago
  1. Brutus
  2. Lear
  3. Ghost of Hamlet’s Father
  4. Gertrude
  5. Ophelia
  6. Shylock
  7. Portia
  8. Hamlet
  9. Henry V
  10. Iago
  1. Benedict.
  2. Henry V.
  3. Puck.
  4. Katherine.
  5. Beatrice.
  6. Snout.
  7. Falstaff.
  8. Hamlet.
  9. Hamlet.
  10. Lady MacBeth.

Well, at least I’m not the ONLY one who had Beatrice for #1.

I, on the other hand, am the only one who had MacBeth for #2. That should really help my score.
