Update: Spent the weekend in New York with **Q.** Met a bunch of her friends, roamed the city, had a great time. We had dinner at wd-50 and lunch at Grimaldi’s. (The latter is a recommendation I got from [this thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=392493) but didn’t get a chance to check out on that trip; the former is a place I’ve been before and of which **Q** and I are both fans, and a large part of the reason for choosing New York for our rendezvous.) We stayed at a lovely hotel, browsed some entertainingly overpriced shops, had a delicious stop at the Doughnut Plant, and, most important of all, applied copious amounts of butter to many, many oven-fresh monkeys. Next up: Vancouver. ---

Understand, this is coming from an old fart who has spent 34 years delirously happy to be married to the same woman, but here’s how I see it: You’re both pushing 40. Find out whether you are more important to each other than careers, hometowns, friends, all that. If so, go for it and have a happy life together knowing you won’t have to be twice divorced. A and B will end up being your best friends forever and life will be good. On the other hand, if there are a bunch of what-ifs and I-dunnos, it was the buttered monkeys not meant to be. ---

Dang, late to the party again. Had I been here two weeks ago I would have said that B & Q, being women, have probably been gossiping about you for some time and I would have a hard time believing that Q has not already told B that she would like to butter your monkey. But, since I am late to the party and that was apparently the case, all I’ve got now is CONGRATS!! Oh, and don’t worry about the long distance thing right now. At some point, yes, you may have to address the future with respect to being so far apart, bu tin the meantime see how things go with just the two of you, not all the messy complicated stuff. ---
