It’s the last day of our contract for the year- I’m on break starting tomorrow!!! For the summer!!! Although I have three student interns in the field, usually hold info sessions regarding my degree program and blah, blah, blah. But it’s vacation!!! ---

Mornin’, y’all. **{{{mumper}}}** , for all who need it. A big hunker down for everyone in the path of the rough weather predicted for today, and a big stay inside for those of us roasting in the heat wave. Neighbor Sarah had surgery yesterday to add hardware to her broken femur. She expects to get out of the hospital Monday, direct to the Mayberry Old Folks Warehouse And Physical Terror Chamber for an expected 2 week stay. As for me, I’ma goin’ foraging. ---

I’m off to work. Horrible night–hardly any sleep. Not because of the Bomb that was dropped (I was tired enough from yard work to sleep the sleep of the dead) but the storm (ye gods, Dorothy and Toto came close!) and I was HOT. I don’t like sleeping in A/C unless it’s cranked to about 60. Hot and restless all night. I also heard The Husband get up and down frequently. Also the cat woke me up at 0200, 0400 and 0600. I look as pale as Morticia this morning. I know the TH wants me to say it’s going to be all right, but I can’t. All he (and we) can do is take it one day at a time. I helped him come up with some salvage tactics. Off to work. ---

Aerin’s- Lady Aerin-sol- is my slightly stupider cat. We’ve got two, Aerin and Bailey. Aerin’s the brave and dumb one who loves plastic bags and Bailey’s the one who’s afraid of the floor. And everything else. She’s just sitting. I hate it when they just sit. We’ve got an app for ten-forty. ---

Something’s wrong with her butt. She’s had problems using the litterbox properly for a couple of days, but she’s had anal gland issues before, and it usually clears up. This morning it looks raw, and she can barely walk. She’s also being very very quiet, which is uncharacteristic. I don’t think it’s really serious, but she seems very unhappy, and I don’t like the not walking bit. ---

Poor kitteh. Morgan seems to have similar issues, though thankfully they seem to clear up on their own most of the time. She’s an obsessive groomer, but she isn’t very good at reaching around and cleaning her bum. I’m really really hoping that it never gets so bad as to require a vet visit… she despises car rides and yowls like a demented banshee when subjected to one, but the alternative is a 5-min walk followed by a 5-min bus ride (see above re: demented banshee) and a 10-min walk from there. ---
