Blurf. Ooh, hobbies… Currently my main hobbies are circussy things (hula hoop, contact juggling, just getting into lasso, card manipulation and traditional juggling), gardening, pottery and needle felting. I keep thinking I should start trying crochet, You can tell I’m unemployed, right? 😉 Speaking of gardening, I really should be out there now, planting beans and garlic for the winter, but the weather is impressively yuck. It was so dark this morning I thought the clock was wrong when I woke up. The traditional English Autumn Drizzle has begun; grey sky, half mist half rain that can keep going for weeks if necessary; I just hope it lets up in time for bonfire night, setting fire to things or blowing them up is another of my favourite hobbies 😃 ---

Sleep on weekends. That’s what I’d be doing if my Ren Faire hobby was somehow unavailable. By some quirk of scheduling, whether I was in California or here, my weekends from August through November are occupied. ---

**Ethi** , when you write shortening do you mean butter? What size pans? And does this cake require frosting or do I eat it nekkid? Cuz it sounds like a single serving. For over 20 years my sole hobby has been horseback riding, specifically dressage. My horse (Bob teh Wonder Pony) had to be retired this summer so I no longer ride. I am still grieving but that is getting better. I still go to barn a lot and spend a lot of time with him. It’s just a different emphasis. I do not know what I will do when he crosses The Bridge (after I get out of the psych ward). He really has been my life. I have minor hobbies, like reading and rubber stamping and I go to the health club and exercise a few days a week. Those fill the time. But it’s difficult to no longer have a passion. I have jury duty summons this week. I did not have to go in today but I have to call every night afte 5pm to see if I am needed for the next day. Talk about boring! ---

How do I nicely ask/tell my grandma not to wash the dishes for me anymore? Despite my insisting upon it about 5 billion times, she no longer uses soap when washing them which has been… inconvenient to have to wash everything, but now she’s started putting things away in totally random locations so that I have to hunt them down before I can rewash them. I shouldn’t be taking this break because I’ve got quite a bit of work to do on this lunch, however, I’m feeling positively ick and a short break and some diet 7up was absolutely necessary. ---

Is she losing it? Mrs. Plant’s Mama did the same thing as her cancer progressed. There were soon other, more obvious things. If so, no, she doesn’t realize she is doing things wrong, and may not remember. I do try and spread happiness as I move through life, but stoves and pilot lights are something to take seriously. We weren’t married yet, but I began living in the rec room downstairs working days, and Mrs. Plant began working nights so that someone was always with her. ---

Oh, sorry… the cooks in my mom’s family used a lot of shortcuts; some of their cake recipes were just a list of ingredients. They also used to bake pennies into it when making a birthday cake, as hidden prizes for the kiddies. Ah, the 60’s… I have used butter, and it works, but when I was a kid we always just used Crisco. This will make a 2-layer cake, or a 9x14. Oh, and it definitely works nekkid–I hate storebought frosting and I always forget to buy the ingredients to make my own. It’s like a big, spongy brownie. ---

Lunch today is made by my own hand. I have: - roast chicken leg and thigh (OK, prepackaged by Trader Joe’s, but I did the roasting) - salad with mushrooms, slices of pears, and dried fruit with balsamic vinegar and olive oil - quinoa with tabbouleh, fresh basil, and dried fruit - flatbread - Snapple iced tea - chocolate I’m eating better than I do when I eat out. ---

My lunch is the last of the unfrozen leftover veggie-beef soup, and an orange. It’s been a busy morning, but I am kicking butt! 😃 Between finishing the administrative details from my Drawing From the Depths of Heck and working versions 1 and 2 of the Drawing from Not Quite so Deep in Heck, I’m just being mega-productive. I live with them. They do ok still mostly. I know that it helps because they have each other when I can’t be here. If something happened to one of them I know the other would have to end up in a nursing home. So we’re still ok on that front. I just don’t want her to keep doing the dishes, that’s all. ---

Wow It’s already 1PM and well no _blerf_ from me. I should be ashamed. My tailbone hurts as I sat on it all weekend working and the calls came back to back. One minute before my log out time, my back teeth are floating and I get a call that took over an hour to resolve. I think the call might had gone faster if the caller hadn’t had a nip, or two, or three before they called. Sweet blessed relief when that call ended. Sitting here watching the traffic jam across the street. I live on a tiny sort of dead end street shouldn’t be any traffic jams but the people on the corner have 12 - yes that’s right, count them, 12 - vehicles, if you count the campers and trailers. When 3 cars and one UPS truck are trying to turn onto the side street and 5 cars are trying to come off the side street and you’ve got cars parked right on the corner yep, traffic jam! Hobbies? Well I used to ride my horse but those days are long over. I can’t afford another horse and I don’t even know where I’d keep one anymore. I have been trying to get back into belly dancing (will that tingle a spidey sense?) but that’s hard when there’s no room to move. I guess if the bedouin women could do it on their knees in a tent (or so I’ve heard) I should be able to. Except not on my knees, I’d never be able to hear the music over the creaking. My son is very artistic, we used to do crafty/arty things together. His looked so nice and mine looked, well if I told you what it was supposed to be and you shut one eye and squinted with the other you could kinda sorta see what I was trying for. The choco cake sounds good. I will have to try it. The belly dancing I get around to doing eventually should burn off the cake, right? Never tried elbow sex, might have to try it. I’ll suggest it _teehee_ I can’t wait to see that expression! Is there a book on it somewhere or do you just kind of wing it? OH WOW! Now I get why the chicken dance is so popular at weddings! Now I feel stoopid! ---
