I want to say this- Owning a condo combines all the disadvantages of owning your own home with all the disadvantages of renting. Here in the USA, the Condo board can triple your association dues and there’s nothing you can do about it. Even selling is hard to do them.

I agree that an unexpected raise in condo fees is something you have to worry about. The rest of those comments haven’t matched my experience: there are lots of hassles that I have to deal with as a house owner that someone else looked after as a condo owner and we didn’t have any problems at all with selling our condo. YMMV, of course.
