Recently I stumbled onto this timeline of human history. Might be a good read to go with those videos.

1901 (Jan 1) A new century begins, built on reactions to the previous century’s excesses in labor exploitation and to Europe’s conflict between nationalism and empire.

Are they trying to say that if there had been better labor laws enacted in the 1890’s a new century could have been avoided?
