With the understanding, of course, that lying in the Senate hearing is a criminal offense. Trump was probably upset that she didn’t just bluster through and either double down on the lie or claim she never said it. That’s what he would have done (and why his lawyers don’t want him anywhere near an investigation committee.) Any staffer who wouldn’t gladly go to jail in the service of propping up Trump as an infallible god, doesn’t have the loyalty that he has come to expect. ---

That witness had some interactions with Russians. Question is to what extent that witness’ interactions with the Russians were at the direction of - or at least with the knowledge of - senior members of the Trump campaign. To that end, Mueller issued the subpoena, which would presumably document relevant discussions. [My first guess as to the witness would be Papadopoulus, but the timing doesn’t align.] ---
