I walked home from business at the Credit Union, cooked a simple dinner, , changed into jogging shorts & a T-shirt, took out the trash & then showered.

Afterwards, I was taking some medicine, & saw a brown something in the hair next to my bellybutton ( **Bosda** is an “innie”).

I pulled it loose, thinking it was a tangle of hair, & tossed it into the sink.

DARNIT!

It was a tick!

Soaked it in liquid soap, & washed it down the drain.

No marks on my skin, so it hadn’t bitten me yet.
First time I’ve had a tick on me in years.

Just coming in to say I HATE TICKS.

Glad it didn’t get a chance to attach itself to you.

That is all.

Most of our back yard is wooded - most of our neighborhood is wooded - and more than once, I’ve come in after working in the yard to find the nasty little bastards on me.

ick ick ick ick ick ick

The dog has brought them in also.

they were kind of a fact of life in one place I lived. You’d come home, check the dogs and pull off several, then shower while pulling more off you. I think I hate mosquitoes more.

Yeah, mosquitos suck (heh), they are obviously responsible for a lot of horrible diseases, and they deserve every last bit of hate that’s directed their way. But not only can ticks also transmit potentially fatal diseases, a blood-filled tick is quite possibly one of the most disgusting looking things ever, and having to pry an attached one off is just incredibly gross. ICK ICK ICK is right. Hate them. HATE THEM.

Spooooooonnn!!!
😉

Yeah, I hate the blood drinking little arachnids too, and we have no shortage of the sodding things on our property, thankfully, the backyard chickens find them tasty, my small flock of a dozen hens keeps them under control, no ticks on the lawn, just in the hay fields

In the olden days you would use a spoon to pull the tick off (I vaguely recall drowning the ticks in petroleum jelly before scooping them off with the spoon). Nowadays I use a tick key: [http://www.tickkey.com/](http://www.tickkey.com/)

We have legions of ticks, but they stay in the woods. The dogs only get them when they explore past the edges of the lawn.

I have to lay 800+ feet of electric dog fence wire in the woods sometime soon, and I will do it only with major tick precautions, as Lyme and other diseases are endemic here.

But that’s enough tick talk.

[The Tick](https://www.google.com/#q=the+tick). Satirical comic-book character (also a short-lived live-action TV series and an animated TV series). His battle-cry was “Spooooooooon!” (essentially because he’s insane).

Yer’ jus’ bein’ ticky-tacky. :o

OP, where would you have gotten a tick? Mid-abdomen seems pretty high for the kinds of ticks I’m familiar with (grass and low scrub hiders).

Australian drop-ticks?

They definitely drop. I was standing under an oak tree one day and saw one land on my arm. No idea if the tick was targeting me, or how; perhaps it was just a random fall from a tree.

Just got one apparently on Sunday, when (I shit you not) going to the mass. Got to go through some (30ft) stretch of suburban overgrown bush and here it was. Sucked up just over the left bun of my ass. I spotted it on Tuesday. Half fatted and vibrant. Ick.

Luckily, there was my niece (veterinarian technician) at hand. BTW.

Proper way to get rid of it is to gently grab it with pincette, and turn it clockwise about 10x. No oils or ointments.

It slightly hurt and it still itches.
