# A TV trope - sleeping on the sofa instead of in the spare room

If you’re sleeping on a couch, or whatever, you’re indicating that you’ve not given up wanting to sleep in the bed again.  
If you sleep in a bed in the spare room, you’re acknowledging that the change might be permanent.
