šŸ™‚ Weā€™re using that dratted standard calculation of gestation, which starts two weeks **before** we ā€˜celebratedā€™ā€¦ so what was going on at the end of Jan and beginning of Feb? Hmmmā€¦ I donā€™t recall celebrating anything other than _someone_ being a major babe. šŸ˜‰ And our baby name list is pretty short already. We have leftovers from the last time, LOL! Hi Tygr (and Jkayla), I saw the link in your sig and couldnā€™t pass up an opportunity to send big congrats! And, such a coincindence! I am now pregnant with my first babyā€“about 5 weeks (weā€™ll know for sure next Thursday when I have my ultrasound) but by the due date calendar Iā€™m due Nov. 5. My husbandā€™s currently jobless, but doing freelance writing, so things arenā€™t too bad. Is the SDMB on some special cycle? hedra too? Iā€™m a couple of weeks behind. I joined the November 2001 Expecting Club over at [Parentsplace.com](http://Parentsplace.com) (which I found through an old post on the SDMB, posted by Sue Duhnym, I believeā€“thanks Sue!) I canā€™t wait until the ultrasound next Thursday. Good luck with the morning sickness, Jkayla. So far, Iā€™ve only got a little nausea, which tells me itā€™s time for me to eat something. Sometimes, I just canā€™t stand the excitement! And sometimes, I really, really need a nap. ---

Hedra, Hope all is well and I will email you this weekend. Ceejaytee, I am happy for you. The doc did my ultrasound two weeks ago. We scanned it in and sent it to Tygrā€™s mom. I have another friend that called me the week after I told her our news with her own news. We were talking all through lunch about how we were both irregular cycled women and how they were going to start trying. They didnā€™t even have a chance to try, they succeeded. YAY! šŸ™‚ Another friend, a mother of two, gave me her pregnancy books last night and a video. She reads a lot. She is also giving me product reccomendations (like the Diaper Champ that uses grocery bags in it to bundle diapers in their own little world). She gave us this little music/wave maker thing that hangs on a crib since their kids are done with it. I have been having a rough time on the nausea and ended up at my family doctor Monday with a nosebleed. It is attributed to my severe pain-in-the-butt allergies. They also think the congestion is adding to the nausea quite a bit. It is. I sneeze and get sick. The OB doc and the family doc want me back on Claritin. It is the one allergy med safe during pregnancy. Besides, I will get sinus infection after sinus infection if I am not careful. That is why I was on Claritin everyday anyway. I am tired a lot, but the past three days have not let me sleep well at night. I will try a nap this afternoon before the Raleigh Dopefest. I am on 5 hours sleep now. I know I will get sleepy at about 2:00pm. I never get the naps during the week because I am at work. Although yesterday, I almost fell onto my computer screen. That wouldvā€™e been ugly. I think I read that calcium defficiencies interfere with sleep. I have not been drinking milk the past few days because it bothers my stomach when my allergies are like this. Oh well, thatā€™s probably enough about me. Hedra and Ceejaytee, Keep me updated on your progress. Many more women show up pregnant and we will need a status of pregnancy thread. ---

Jkayla: Have you tried using saline nasal sprays? I have terrible sinus problems and the saline spray (nonmedicated) keep things a bit more moist and that seems to help. I also tear up the inside of my nose from blowing and the doc (ENT not OB) recommended some bacitracinā€“put a tiny bit on a Qtip and apply. It helps at night especially, when things get dry. So far Iā€™ve had only mild nausea, which fortunately goes away when I eat. Every hour or so, I have to eat something small or I feel lousy. Can you take a calcium supplement to replace the milk youā€™re missing? Man, sounds like youā€™re having a rough time. Hang in thereā€“supposedly it gets better in the second trimester! ---

Congrats on your Tygr cubā€¦ainā€™t it a great feeling. Weā€™re due with our first July 14th-ish, seems like a lotta doper babies coming around. I think Spiritus Mundi has one coming up in May. Photos are of course required. Well, we had a really special occasion this week, so I figured it was time for an update. We went for the eighteen week ultrasound the other day. That is one of the coolest experiences Iā€™ve ever had. The technician was great, pointing out right off what we were looking at. It had never really occured to me that an ultrasound takes a picture through the skin of the mother, so it also takes a picture through the babyā€™s skin, too. We saw little bones of the face, ribs, spine, arms, hands, legs, feetā€¦ The tech showed us where the eyes were, showed us the heart beating. Then she turned the camera and started taking pictures of different depths down along the babyā€™s body, getting cross section shots! She showed the babyā€™s heart, lungs, kidneys, said everything looked real good. Then she started moving the camera, pointing it to get shots of various bones. She had a light pen and sheā€™d touch the screen once at each end of a bone and the machine would calculate the length of the bone and feed that info into the computer. She did legs, spine, arms and head. Then the computer ran the calculations and said that the baby is about seven to eight inches long and weighs about nine ounces. Surprisingly, the computer calculated that, according to the measurements, the baby is nineteen weeks along rather than eighteen weeks. The doctors will look at those numbers and see if they can get a true due date. Then the tech asked if we wanted to know the babyā€™s gender. Weā€™d agreed that it would be just as much a surprise now as later, so we said yes. Weā€™re having a little girl. šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚ šŸ™‚ My friends and family are laughing at me because Iā€™m so giddy-giggly-happy. I tell them Iā€™m tickled pink. Then I say that if we were having a little boy Iā€™d be tickled blue. šŸ™‚ Mrs. Tygrā€™s still feeling the occasional queasiness. Felt it during the ultrasound, too. Then we saw on the screen that the baby was really moving and kicking her feet. Mrs. T said ā€œSo THATā€™S whatā€™s been ruining my appetite today.ā€ I said that the baby was just being a typical female, not wanting to have her picture taken. šŸ˜ƒ So now weā€™ll be starting to decorate the nursery. We both agree that weā€™re not overly ā€œpinkā€ people, so itā€™ll probably be some color a little more gender-neutral. Iā€™ve scanned the pictures in and am going to start looking for a free web page space to put them on. :: Tygr wanders off smiling, humming and giggling to himself :: ---

Great news Tygrā€¦ As far as the gestational time goesā€¦we had a similar experience at mrs beagledaveā€™s ultrasoundā€¦original due date was July 13 or soā€¦ultrasound indiacted July4th or soā€¦ Our CNM was hesitant to officially change the date because then we could run into issues of induction if the baby had not delivered by say July 18th. I tend to split the difference and say July 10thā€¦but the little critter (we think ours is a girl also) will come when she wants. Anywhoā€¦great to hear the newsā€¦have fun with the nurseryā€¦and be nice to the Mrs šŸ˜‰ ---

I have seen the ultrasounds. She is adorable ā€“ well, as adorable as 18/19-week fetuses (feti?) ever get! Itā€™s a real joy to work with one of my favorite fellow Dopers. And, just to embarrass Tygr, let me comment that the lavender panties were a particularly nice touch! šŸ™‚ (Now, letā€™s see him explain his way out of **that** ā€¦ :D) ---
