# A union between Britain and France in 1956... WTF?

Apparently the French PM of the day, Guy Mollet, really proposed it. It seems to me like an incredibly harebrained scheme. Is there any chance that it would have gone anywhere, had it been made public? Or would Mollet find himself in a padded room somewhere outside Paris by the end of the week?
