Would you accept a makeover - hair, makeup, clothes, shoes, accessories? Let’s assume there’s no TV show or magazine article that will mock your “before” or any of that. Let’s assume you get a mystery coupon that promises you a makeover at no cost or obligation to you. Your reaction is: 1 - For free? Well, yeah, duh!! 2 - Probably, if I didn’t have anything better to do. 3 - Probably not - I have no interest in such trivialities. 4 - Are you suggesting I need to be made over?!?!? 5 - Other comic and/or snarky response. People who know me know that I don’t really care about fashion or style or makeup or jewelry. And these same people might be surprised to learn that my answer would be 1 or 2. I’ve often wondered what a stylist/fashion consultant would do with me if given free rein. I’d be curious to see how such a person sees the made-over me. I’d like to know how a good hair stylist would take my thin, straight, fine tresses and form them into a flattering look. But I don’t care enough about any of these things to pay for them - looks just aren’t that important to me. How about you - If I could wave my magical FairyChatWand and grant you a makeover, what say ye? ---

I’d go for option 1 on the grounds of curiosity. It’s a subject I have little knowledge of and I’d love any learning experience. (I only wear jean / t-shirt combos and work clothes) ---

Probably 1. I’d like someone to tell me what would really look good on me, provided they refrained from telling me how stupid I was for having the stuff in my wardrobe that they don’t think looks good on me. I’m not going to start wearing makeup regularly–probably. Nor will I spend big amounts of time on my hair. But I’m not opposed to the idea of being told what would make me look good. ---

1 Well, you did use the F word (free). And I’m a naturally curious person. Also, I keep thinking that I should eventually figure out that makeup thing. So I’d be especially interested if they’d agree to show me the minimalist approach to that. But the kicker is that it’s free. I’d be willing to let them insult me on TV for enough of the free. ---

4 - Are you suggesting I need to be made over?!?!? would be my first thought, but it sure wouldn’t surprise me much. In fact, I’m sure that at least 90% of my acquaintances and coworkers, if asked, would recommend me for a makeover. I’d only do it with certain stipulations such as no hair coloring, no bangs, no makeup, and no pointy shoes. What I really want is to lose a few dozen pounds. Then I’d look awesome, and I’d get myself the nice clothes and stylish hairdo. If someone could wave a magic wand and remove fifty pounds of unwanted fat, _that_ is something I’d jump at. ---

Yep, absolutely #1, in a minute! The only thing I wouldn’t do is the “What Not To Wear” wardrobe dump, if that’s real. I’d be happy to get a makeover and new wardrobe pieces, but you can have my hippie chick skirts when you…well, you know. I’m willing to incorporate new stuff, but not get rid of my existing stuff. ---

I’m torn. I’m happy with my hair, my clothes, my accessories, I don’t like wearing make-up unless I have to for performances, and I can only wear sneakers because of assorted problems with my feet On the other hand, I wouldn’t mind the pampering, so I guess #2 would be my answer ---

1. (None of the above.) I like the way I look, I already found a really awesome hairdresser and fixed that aspect of things - which previously did need work. I dress in my own style and am not amenable to being told what to wear, and one of my close friends makes an excellent personal shopper. So … not interested, not because I neglect my appearance but because I’m really very happy with it. I could see my look ending up on What Not to Wear, because it’s quirky, but it’s my look and every time I try to let other people tell me how to dress it just turns out weird and not quite right. It really is better for everyone involved that I dress myself. ---

1 - provided that I have the right to veto any suggestions that I hate. When I watch what not to wear they always recommend a couple of things that I think are hideous. And any high maintainance hair/make-up styles are doomed to failure in the long term because I just can’t be bothered. ---
