You know, lichen is a colony of two species, from different kingdoms, which cooperate to survive on almost entirely inorganic resources. They take nothing from the environment that other species need, and are themselves the supporting food source of many species. If you want to rank life by ethical lifestyle, lichen should be right up there in the top ten.
