Huh. No kiddin’?
Well, obviously, it needs a little retooling. Maybe some wirework and tasteful nudity…
Ah, but, was she a woman?
(I’ve got a poster of that speech. Damn but that woman had more balls than the immense majority of dudes, and am I glad I never got the sharp end of her tongue.)
Two, there were two models (as in “person who poses”, no as in “design”).
That’s Hedley.

My vote for Emma Goldman.
2020, lots of time to decide, who is the final decision maker?
For those who like the idea of women on currency:

They could do a twofer – Bill Clinton on one side, Hillary on the other, with both sides the obverse and no reverse.
Looks like Hamilton will stay on the $10, as expected, and it’ll be Harriet Tubman on the $20: Tubman replacing Jackson on the $20, Hamilton spared - POLITICO
According to the article just above, it’s not a complete removal–the current plan is for him to be on the back.
If they’re going to go there, I suggest they put all the people who have graced our money before on the back. Maybe even spread it out on more than one bill.
Out of curiosity, has Teddy Roosevelt ever been on currency? I don’t think I’ve ever heard of it if he had. He seems to have been well-enough regarded to warrant it, so it seems odd it’s not been tried.
Yeah, Andrew, haha, back of the bus for you, double haha!
TR has only been featured in the presidential dollar coin series, never on paper currency. And perhaps on a coin would be more befitting of him as redesigning coins was his self-described “pet crime.” In the end we settled for the double eagle $20 coin that he commissioned which never was fully realized as it was too hard to mass produce.
Admittedly I quite like the TR alternative design as featured in this CBSNews.com piece which credits Edward Burczyk/Dollar ReDe$ign Project.
Have they said if they’ll commission a portrait of Tubman to use on the $20 bill?
The photos of her are… uh, not very flattering.
The images we see on US currency are all portrait paintings and of course artistic license was taken to make the subjects happy with the results.
I have read that Washington didn’t like the portrait chosen for his bill. But he’s not here to complain. lol
