20-20K, flat, for CDs, with 90dB dynamic range, 90dB channel separation, 0 rumble
20-20K, in practice, up to 50K in some records, with 60dB dynamic range, 25-30 db channel separation -70ish dB rumble
Wow and flutter is also an important spec in vinyl, non-existant in CDs, but that depends on the turntable, not the vinyl.
Sorry for a late reply - haven’t been in this thread for awhile.
I haven’t ever thought of emo as being retro/lo-fi, at least as I know it. Emo music doesn’t seem to be lo-fi. The couple Miata owners I know are car enthusiasts that like it for many reasons including their low cost. As a motorcycle rider, I’ve enjoyed driving them since they give you some of the same feelings . I can see myself getting one at some point and I am definitely not emo nor hipster who seems to be more associated with retro/lo-fi in these parts.
Full-disclosure: I used to own an MG and loved driving it! Didn’t love the upkeep. Miata seems like a reliable modern version.
I once read somewhere that it’s a psychological thing. Apparently a lot of people are discomfited by have the speedometer needle near the top end of the range when they’re on the highway.
That’s exactly the reason I bought one. My real dream car is an old Triumph TR6, or I’d settle for an MG, but I don’t want to deal with maintaining a 40something year old British car. A Miata is pretty much the reliable, modern equivalent.
