ABC License Renewal Threats Getting Serious

I don’t bet.

We are nineteen months into Trump 47 and not a single ABC, NBC, or CBS station is closed. Trump has had some success with CBS News content but they still run stories that don’t make him look good. Just as with the effort to jail Trump’s political enemies, it is going awfully slow.

Plus Trump doesn’t seem able to totally ignore courts.

So – if I did bet, I would get that my local ABC station, WPVI, will still be on the air, and broadcasting stuff Trump doesn’t like, all through 2028.

Now, if there is another term with a MAGA presidency, my bet would change.

Disney has huge legal resources, Trump’s cabal has unlimited legal resources. On the bright side, federal court rulings have generally been unfavourable to Trump. Also on the bright side, if the Orange One takes it to the Supreme Court, among the Republican horde at least John Roberts and Amy Coney Barrett appear to still have some respect for democracy and the rule of law.

More to the point, though, Disney has unlimited information resources. If Trump tries to make it an all-out war against Disney, Disney will turn out all-out propaganda to fight back.

The Mouse is not an enemy I would want to have.

Makes me think of Norman Spinrad’s “The Year of the Mouse” where the Chinese government picks a fight with Disney and loses.

This just makes me sad. And a little frightened. Right and wrong no longer matters.

When are we gonna see ICE in Disneyland?

Might does not make right. But go mouse.

The way I think about it, go WABC, WNBC, KABC, KNBC, etc. If Disney divested ABC, it wouldn’t change the legal dynamic.

Trump isn’t an enemy of Disneyland, but of critical media.
