I like Herzog’s films myself, but after his _Rescue Dawn_ appeared here just a few months ago (a couple of years late), a local newspaper ran an angry Letter to the Editor from the brother of Gene, the POW portrayed by Jeremy Davies, saying despite meeting with Herzog beforehand, he completely distorted Gene’s actions and behavior. (Since Gene disappeared and was never heard from again, I’m not sure how anyone could have known that.) ---

I hope they’re all in the same streetcar, and it blows up”! And Herzog’s the dick just because he doesn’t know who Ferrara, a very obscure American director, is??? Ferrara damn sure knows who Herzog is and still put a death wish on him. Fuck Ferrara. Anyway, Herzog’s talented enough to get away with being a dick, if he were one, which I don’t think he is. ---

I have a pretty firm philosophical stance on that issue :). Werner’s pet actor Klaus Kinski gets no pass for his epic performances - he was still an egomaniacal scumbag. It does sound like Ferrara is a bit dickish as well, but I would hope he was being a little hyperbolic. ---
