I LOVE LOVE LOVE a good media frenzy. I mean I’m more partial to crime MAKING the celebrity (scott peterson, jonbenet, richard ramirez, ted bundy) but I’ll settle for a celebrity losing their shit. A frenzy is a frenzy. I mean when was the last time we saw someone flip their shit and shave their head and then shave their legs in a hotel swimming pool. She missed a court custody hearing because she was at starbucks and driving around for the paparazzi with her dog!! At least the childrens father showed up to court…wearing an EYEPATCH!! Lots of land in Louisiana, 20% royalties on her albums, perfume deal with Elizabeth Arden through 09, fan club memberships, other merchandise like dolls and shirts, various ad campaigns and a variety of other income sources.
Not to mention that when she shaved her head, she demanded that a salon open up after hours for her, kept the blinds open during the procedure, and smiled and posed for the photographers through the window.
And SHAKES, most of the comments I’ve heard from pundits are in the spirit of ruefully shaking heads and laughing in disbelief, “Who would ever have thought that K-Fed would be the better parent?”
Look at it this way. With Kevin, the kids have him, Shar, Kevin’s mom (temporarily living with him), a licensed nanny, and Kevin and Shar’s kids, who reportedly get along with SPF and JJ like a house afire. With Britney, they have her (and her secondhand smoke) and whatever hangers-on are at her house that day. Even if Kevin was subpar in his parenting, he’s surrounded by other stable adults. Plus, he showed up at the custody hearing and she didn’t.
No sympathy here. The girl knows no shame. She has no idea how to hole up and let things blow over. Instead of staying home with the little ones and working hard on getting her career back on track (such as it is) she’s out partying, drinking, and having sexual encounters in public. The one recent chance she had to truly perform, she phoned it in. I never thought I’d say this, but I have more respect for Paris Hilton – at least she’s hiding out in Africa where nobody can see her, and she is at least momentarily serious about changing her life.
Then she’s a total weanie.
Yeah, say what you will about Christina Aguileria, at least she’s got a decent set of pipes. Britney doesn’t seem to have any talent at all.

I can pity her. Through whatever combination of luck, looks, and talent (even if she is as lacking in creative ability as other posters have mentioned, it still takes some talent to follow the direction of those who do have the creative ability - it may not be a great amount that deserves the attention she got, but there is some there.) she was positioned to have all the things that most of us think would make our lives easier.
And it has all gone to shit.
Yes, she’s at least as much at fault for what has happened to her life as anyone else you might care to mention. Yes, she’s proven she’s an idiot.
But I still feel some pity for her.
But no where near what I feel for the kids fighting to get an education in our local schools. (There are some good schools here in the city, but others are… less than good.) Or the victims of the messes in Iraq, Zimbabwe, or the Sudan.
I just wish that the mainstream news would shut up about her, Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan, and the rest of the jet set idiot poster children.
Britney is a product. She gave good value for the money for several years.
Her warranty has long since expired. She is now like a Roomba that just keeps bumping into the same couch leg as is plaintively sucks at the same old ground.
She is not worth the expense to repair. Time to pull the plug.

Frankly, I feel bad for her, though I do understand her role in her own demise. In the end though, I think her dependency on the paparazzi is due to the fact that she knows no other way. Sure, she’s got tons of money, sure she could leave any time, but it’s almost like the girl is in an abusive relationship. Obviously she is unbalanced in more than one way, but to me that just makes the paparazzi hounding even worse.
It’s easy for us to scream, “Cry me a river, bitch! Go cry into some $100 bills!” because she has something we all want- money. In reality, her almost a million bucks a month can’t fix her life, it can’t make her happy, and it wont buy her back the innocence she lost as a child being thrown into that industry.
It’s hard for most people to pity her, because she was thrown into this industry, she didn’t actually have a melt-down until much later. She had been famous for a good… I don’t know 8 years without any major breakdowns? She had her shit together for the entire duration.
Yes, she is not talented. Well, I suppose she’s a good dancer? And a mediocre singer? I don’t think she ever sings live though. So essentially she’s produced and she’s hot. She was given that at birth, so that’s nothing she earned. I suppose she could have worked a little bit during her mousketeer days, but all in all, she’s been quite lucky.
Now she’s calling the paps to come see her go to starbucks? I don’t know really. The only honest truth is that we can’t really know if she’s doing drugs or drinking alot normally. She actually passed a drug test recently. But her having gone through so many lawyers and PR people recently is disturbing.
I don’t disagree about the luck.
But from the perspective of someone who nearly flunked marching - dancing is a talent.

PLEASE do not call her a musician. A musician actually has the skills to read, write and play/sing music. BS has , at best a passable voice, and no musical training to speak of. She is famous because she was a hot blonde who at one time could dance and shake her boobs. That really is the summation of her talents.
Which , I think, is part of her problem. Deep down she realizes that she is not the real deal, that there is no “there” there, and that literally hundreds of thousands of young women could do what she can do. She is a product of very slick and sophisticated marketing.

Having followed and read all answers it would appear that the milk of human kindness and compassion has dried up for most of the responders.
The girl/woman is totally screwed, she has nobody to turn to, all her so called friends have turned backstabber.

Given all the money she’s made for/given to pretty much everyone in her life, shouldn’t *someone * **want ** to take care of her? Is she *completely * surrounded by money-grubbing ingrates? And if so, how could I not feel bad for her, given that this is all she’s known since she was a kid?
