So Opal, make any sales off this thread?
I’m with ultress on this one.
And I would add, even tho’ I’m just a pagan myself, I still find your t-shirt design to be a little patronizing. That’s MHO tho’… I wouldn’t write you hate mail because of it. Just tell you I don’t think it’s a very funny joke.
<shrug>
here’s one for you guys:
Q: Why did all the ladies love Jesus?

A: Because he was hung like this… hold up arms outstretched
and my 69th post too! double points!
I had a T-Shirt I used to wear around Easter time that read “Jesus was in a coma.” Used to piss a few folks off, but joke em if they can’t take a fuck.
My pet suffers from dyslexia and a Christ complex.
GOD IS COMING
AND IS SHE PISSED
For Rottblat (umm tradition in my college, long ass softball game with free beer [30 or so kegs for 300 some odd students]) one year’s commerative T-shirt was a version of that famous painting with the Virgin Mary holding christ after his crusifiction…
Except he was passed out and vomiting from the keg he’d been drinking out of the tap from
I think it’s a great idea. It reminds me of a panel in an old comic book “E-man”. Three cars in a parking lot. The bumper stickers, read from left to right: Honk if you love Jesus Honk if you are Jesus I brake for Jesus.
GOD IS COMING
GRAB AN UMBRELLA
This is wierd. I just happened to find, and put on a t-shirt a friend of mine designed and sold locally about 10 years ago. It has a drawing of the crucifixion. Above it: “Christ died for our sins”
Below: “and all I got was this lousy T-shirt.”
Love it, Opal.
The absolute best, funniest, laughing-out-loud humorous thing I’ve read in about a month, is the lastest Onion article about how the Pope just won the Host Eating Contest. Apparently he ate enough sanctified wafers to equal seven and one-half full Bodies of Christ…
Way better, of course, than the old shirt:
“Jesus Saves!
… And Jones shoots from the rebound and SCORES!”
GOD IS COMING.
LOOK BUSY.
“God is love”…I haven’t seen either in such a long time that both seem as real as the tooth fairy and hence worthy of t-shirts and bumper stickers.

**Well what some people consider humor maybe others don’t. I would hesitate to call it humor impaired, just different strokes for different folks. I’m sure that there are things you don’t find funny that other people would consider humorous. It’s more a matter of taste and preference than being impaired. **
The issue isn’t whether or not they personally find it funny, it’s that they can’t accept that it is meant in good fun, but rather take it as some huge assault on their beliefs.

No. In fact in my first thread I tried to be as vague as possible so that I couldn’t be accused of that sort of thing, but apparently vagueness is now something that gets threads closed.
Sorry Opal, your last quote wasn’t my post, it was jarbabyj.
Is vagueness as to the topic the same as vagueness as to cha chingggg ?

**Yeah, designing a juvenile t-shirt that pisses people off is completely analogous to writing The Satanic Verses. Snort. **
Are you suggesting I said that?

Non-Christian, here. I agree with what has already been said, that your T-shirts probably don’t merit hate mail (an extreme reaction in anyone’s book), but this doesn’t mean that the senders are “humour impaired”, just devout. Making Jesus, God, or anything else Biblical the butt of a joke is an assault on their beliefs. Depending on how deeply one feels about the subjects being lampooned, it can be galling enough for them to react in the way they did.

Ummm yeah.
It’s rather like the Salmon Rushdie fatwah: millions of moslems calling for the blood of an author who writes some obscure dry intellectual book of no great consequence which they allege is insulting to Islam but which probably (as I understand it) actually isn’t, according to the Islamic theologians who have actually bothered to read it.
One is left wondering what it is all about. What’s the motivation? What creates such a great burning desire to find something offensive?
Back to the OP. If your question is, should people (Christians or whoever) be sending you vitriol over a t-shirt design…probably not.
If your question is whether certain people are “humor impaired” because they take offense at a certain joke, then no. IceWolf explained why certain people may take offense at this particular topic. I mean shit…didn’t we already have a similar discussion about the term breeder awhile back? Several folks found the term offensive…others said that it’s not a big deal. wring nailed it on the head with her notion of “humor selectiveness”…know your audience.
