Between the _ **John Carter of Mars** _ movie and this, I feel like 2012 is the year when Hollywood realized that \*\*bup \*\*is the ultimate arbiter of excellence. ---

I hate Illinois [del]Nazis[/del] badasses… I know it seems a bit silly to look for historical accuracy in a movie where Lincoln is killing vampires, but is anybody else bothered by the Washington Monument being complete or Lincoln’s mother having a tombstone (neither of which were done in Lincoln’s lifetime)? I’m reading a book on Andrew Jackson at the moment. Now _ **he** _ would be prime for vampire hunting, especially with a hickory stake. His father died before he was born and his mother died while away nursing cousins thus he wasn’t near either when they died, and in spite of hiring the 19th century equivalent of private investigators once he became rich he was never able to find a grave for either one. (He wanted to erect elaborate headstones; he did do so for Rachel.) Also there was the incident with the British officer that left him with a passionate hatred of the English til his dying day. Parents whose graves were never found/tough frontier fighter/passionate hatred of all things foreign/famous in his own lifetime for his resilience/unable to sire children…you could have fun working those in. ---

I’m bothered by the Washington Monument (although I can’t watch video at work. I’m taking your word for it). I didn’t know about Lincoln’s mother’s tombstone. Meh. I’m pretending to be excited about it because one of my friends is totally gung-ho about the “existing fiction plus zombie” genre. But my mom gave me Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which I found too boring to live, so I don’t really care. Maybe it’d be better as a movie than a book, but I’m not getting worked up about it. ---

That’s not how you swing an ax. I’m going to be that guy for a second, but just like Hollywood has no clue how shotguns work re: racking for the sound effect, none of that – even the tree destroying bit – is how one swings and ax. Maybe before Snakes on a Plane et al, I would be geeking out about this, but I’m tired of geeking out at “God, that’s so weird/random; I can’t believe they made that!” This’ll suck. It won’t be as stupid as it should be, or it won’t be dead serious. They’ll try the middle way and fail for it with a movie that will try to have something for everyone, but will have nothing for all. ---
