I’ve quit. I got a monk and a shaman up to level 20 and just couldn’t stand it anymore. It can be great fun, especially when you are with a good group. But it can also be monotonous and dull. The higher you go the longer it takes to level and the best way to level is to camp and do the same thing over and over again. The game simply takes too much time to play. ---

Bah, a friend of mine introduced this game to me one month ago. (which is why you probably have not seen much of me) Already addicted. I swear I play 40+ hours a week, and still want to play more. I currently play a druid, my only character, but as soon as I figure out this damned network I will have two accounts. Probably will play a cleric. After a month of heavy playing I am in my third hell level. (40) Just want to get out of it so badly. Damn you Verant, and damn my friends who got me into it. I’ve played Everquest since September of 1999. For 3 years I played every day. I never had the urge to miss work over it. I don’t think of the time I spend on the game as an addiction. I do things outside of the home. I talk to my friends. I work fulltime. But the game is certainly compelling. I fight a bit. I tradeskill. I fish. I chat with my friends. There are a lot of different ways to play this game. I stopped for about a month to try out Dark Age of Camelot, and I just couldnt’ get into it. I’m looking forward eagerly to Star Wars Galaxies though. I’m ready for a change. 61 Druid 46 Cleric Various other level 20-ish characters ---

I beta tested EQ and hated every minute of it. I bought AC with a friend and we played for about three weeks… and then nearly vomited from boredom. I beta tested Anarchy Online and couldn’t stop laughing from the sheer crappiness. I played the 5-day trial of Earth and Beyond, and nearly had my brain melt from the lameness. Now my friend and I are both really getting into the beta test of Shadowbane. Amazing game, unlike any other MMORPG I’ve had the misfortune of playing. I’m blowing $250 on a new video card just so I can play it without choppiness (actually, I’ve needed a new one for some time, but this is a good excuse to finally blow the bank). ---

It could be worse. You don’t want to know what you start thinking about after playing Grand Theft Auto 3 for a while… I’m enjoying .hack, really. It’s a good simulation. Waiting for Galaxies. ---

I’m a fairly new addict,I just started playing EQ in August of 2002,but my husband has played for more than 3 years. I have fun interacting with my guild and fighting evil in it’s varied forms too. I just made a froglok palidan of Marr,and he is FUNNY!!! It’s nice to have a hobby to share with someone. Yes,we do actually go outside the house,and do things socially too,we are fairly balanced with that. We play on the Lany’s T’vyl server. ---

Hehe…been playin 3+ years here, on the Fennin Ro server, and my fiancee plays too…in fact, I MET my fiancee playing EQ, he’s my guildmate. I moved down to Dallas from Chicago over a year ago to move in with him, and more in love every day 😉 63 mage, 52 druid. 40 rogue. 34 shammy, 29 wisard (my 26th letter key is broken =p), 24 cleric, 17 SK, 14 necro, 12 chanter, lol (2 accounts)…and that’s not including my fiancee’s chars, those are just mine _chuckle_ ---

I was addicted to another game for a while. Until I finally got sick of Realm postings like: “Wisencrack’s complete set, only 6 SOJ…” “Dirty Occy & 2 SOJ for your Clean Occy” “Who has White Armor? Can I have some Puhleeeeeeez???” ---

I’ll be driving in an unfamiliar area, and find myself pressing on my steering wheel, attempting to engage the “Sense Heading” button. My husband couldn’t sleep the other night because he was worried about paying back a 1,000 plat loan from friend. When our daughter is born in July, her “going home” outfit will probably be a tunic and a club (provided she comes out with her guild note in hand). ---

Bleh. **lovelee** , I completely agree with you. I found EverQuest to be boring, dull, lifeless and mind-numbing. At least on the carebear servers. PvP servers were a little better, because at least there was a point: competing directly against other players. But the rulesets were still very flawed. I play DaoC and find the experience much more enjoyable, even if the game balance is always being futzed with. With a game designed to have a decent PvP experience, that next ding is what makes you more effective in competition with the other realms. I know when my peep(s) is/are max level, I will be able to participate in PvP combat and still have a purpose other then showing off my outfit. In EverQuest, once you’ve reached UberLevel on the blue servers (whatever that happens to be anymore, was 60 last time I played) what point in playing is there? Do you stand around all day in your epics, wowing the noobs with the pixels that one day could be theirs? This is what they did when I played. Anyone else care to explain their addiction other then ding, ding, ding? That makes no sense to me. No offense to anyone who enjoys this game, it’s just definately not my cup of tea. ---

Most “uber” level 65 players with epics and whatnot can’t kill even an easy exp giving mob by themselves, they need a group for getting exp and a guild for getting loot. That level 60 with epics won’t be sitting around wowing newbies, he’ll be fighting along side 50 of his guildmates against a dragon, giant, or hell even a god. For example, last night my guild participated on something called a “ring war” which is basically defending a dwarven city against a giant assault (giants vs dwarves, kinda unfair for the little guys). After over three grueling hours of fighting of giant hordes, flanking manuevers, massive lines of spearmen decimating our forces while we try to stop the charges against the city, we finally dropped the giant leader and claimed our rewards from our dwarven allies. When you are newbie you hear of all the great things the higher levels are doing and you think to yourself “wow, ill never be able to do that” but eventually you get better, stronger and you start doing all the things you only dreamed about. Thats what keeps people coming back to everquest, and what most other games lack. Truly “epic” encounters that keep people striving to get better in order to overcome. ---

I stayed away (playing DAoC, which I got bored with - on my server it seemed to turn into massive zerging and between-realm whining of who Mythic loves more) until last month, when I started up again. I play on Bertoxxulous - Xiao (lvl 57 monk) and Lini (lvl 54 enchanter), plus a druid on another account for porting me around. I was in the top guild on that server when I quit, but since that time it’s re-formed a few times, and I lost touch with them, plus I just don’t have that kind of time to play hardcore now. I do still have a lot of friends there, my gear still measures up to most folks after all that time away, and I’m having fun for now and trying not to spend **too** much time playing. ---
