I hold in my sweaty little hands right this moment an (empty) absinthe bottle from a friend who got it in the Czech Republic. The brand name appears to be “ABSINTH,” or at least that’s all it says. There’s more writing on it, which I’ll copy down, or at least try to approximate (since the aplhabet is clearly not the same as the one on my keyboard; it’s got a zillion strange diacritical marks). Also some of the writing is in a script-y style and I can’t remotely tell what it says. Up top: ABSINTH Below that in small lettering: PN SP 4/00 (This is maybe the bottling date?) There’s a seal of some kind that I can’t read at all. Then: Horka Lihovina Bottom of front label: 0,5l Alk. 70% obj. (Half a liter, 140 proof) Directly below that: PALIRNA U ZELENEHO STROMU Back label: **Slozeni** : lih, bylinny destilat a macerat (smes bylin a koreni), cukr (_sugar ?_), aroma, barviva E133, E102. Vyrobce/Vyrobca: Palirna u Zeleneho stromu - Starorezna Prostejov komanditni spolecnost Dykova 8, 796 97 Prostejov CESKA REPUBLIKA **Zlozenie** : lieh, voda, bylinny destilat a macerat (zmes bylin a koreni), cukor, aroma, farbivo E133, E102. dovozca a distributor pre SR: ing. Lubos Krivda K & K Export-Import ul. Sucianska 31 036 08 Martin tel. / fax 043/4285251 (_So far we’ve apparently had a list of ingredients and an exporter’s address in two similar languages. I think this next part is a warning not to drive drunk_.) Absinth byl a je napojem trochu tajemnym a proto protazlivym. Opreden ruznymi poverami pritahuje stale znovu pozornost tech, kteri jej zatracuji pro jeho dabelskou moc i tech, kterym imponuje svoji sveraznou opojnosti. And below that there’s what appears to a message telling us not to litter. Don’t know if that helps the discussion or not. If anyone can read Czech, that would be a big, big help.
