In Australia, the year starts around the end of January/start of February, and, depending on what year you are doing, could finish as early as October or as late as December. It’s based around summer.
When I grew up in potato belt Idaho we received two weeks vacation in late September/October for “spud harvest.” A good portion of the junior high and high school kids were then hired to work all day to bring in the potato crop. To make up for lost time we never received any sort of spring break.
