Why the hell would anyone rape Bernard Madoff? He’s seventy years old. I highly doubt that even the most desperate and horny prisoner would resort to raping a seventy-year-old man. And from everything I’ve heard and read, actual prison rape is very rare to begin with. What is more common, supposedly, is younger and weaker men being coerced into sex by older and stronger prisoners, with the unspoken understanding that they might be harmed if they don’t go along with it, or that they’ll be “protected” if they do. Again, not a situation likely to apply to a seventy-year-old man in prison. What is it with these bizarre scenarios people come up with? I mean, if the guy who was going away was 25 years old or something, I could see it, but we’re talking about a man who’s way too old to provide a sexual thrill to anyone but the most perverse and twisted of prisoners. Unless that special guy happens to be in the prison with Madoff, I really doubt he’s going to be sexually abused. He might get beaten up or something, or maybe even killed. But these rape scenarios are really absurd.
That’s rape. It doesn’t matter if the men are not physically attacked, if they are coerced, IT IS RAPE. They do not freely consent to sex. If there’s no free consent, IT IS RAPE.
Actually, you’re right, it is still a form of rape. It’s just different from the kind that everyone seems to think happens because of its exposure in movies like American History X - someone gets ambushed in the shower by a bunch of bigger and stronger guys, and forcibly raped on the spot. I have read that this is exceptionally rare, but people seem to have a perception (fostered by popular culture) that it happens all the time. The other kind of rape is far more common, from my understanding (and I’m sure it would be equally traumatic.)
I highly doubt that Bernard Madoff is going to wind up in either of those situations.

I think people like fantasizing about prison rape because it gives them permission to think in way that is normally supposed to be forbidden. It’s happening to a bad person so it is okay to be excited about it.
