According to the movies, the scariest thing in the world is . . .

Doorknobs. And the longer the camera lingers on them, the scarier they become.

Little girls that talk in a monotone and never blink.
A little girl that talks in a a monotone and never blinks wearing a red shirt and standing in a corn field that was planted in a tube station.

Close to what I came in to say.

However, Spring-Loaded Cats[sup]tm[/sup] technically don’t “jump”.

She’s not just talking, she’s reciting a nursery rhyme! And the tube station used to be… an Ancient Indian Burial Ground!

nah… the scariest thing in movies is

When the hero (or possibly just anyone) declares their undying love for you…

might as well just die right then…

No, that’s on 60s TV series, where the girl is not a cast regular. It works out OK in movies, and does especially well if you finally say it in the last ten minutes.

I was going to say… a woman scorned. But I didn’t want anyone to think it was wordplay, what with “corn” being part of “scorned”, because a woman corned is… well… I don’t know exactly what that would be.

Well, to be fair, a cornfield only really becomes scary if a cropduster shows up.

A string ostenato in a minor key.

A flickering flourescent light bulb.

Unless the movie is part of a franchise that centers to some degree on the protagonist’s sexual escapades. Then you might as well shoot yourself and spare SPECTRE the cost of the bullets.

Shelly Long

My fathers video store sells movies like this. They’re in the back room.

He doesn’t sell old rentals, does he? I hate it when the frames are stuck together.

Pickled in a brine of coarse salt, black pepper and other spices. A staple of cannibal delicatessens everywhere.

Why? Is it because of:
**Signs
Children of the Corn

Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice

Children of the Corn III** (They lied)

**Children of the Corn IV:The Gathering

Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror

Children of the Corn 666: Isaac’s Return ** (The DEvil doesn’t have time for Roman Numerals)

Children of the Corn : Revelation (Once you stop usinf Roman Numerals, you don’t have to go back. Ask Rocky or Bruce the Shark. Or Mike Myers)
“It’s a Good Life” episode of the original Twilight Zone (And the movie, and the 40 years later sequel on the new TZ)

So obvious, yet so overlooked.

Might as well throw in silence to that.

Backing into another character who was out of frame until you got there.

Closing the medicine cabinet and seeing an unexpected person in the mirror behind you.

A noise in a room that’s suppose to be empty. Turns out to be an non-threatening animal. But then the monster’s there too!

The chimes of a clock sounding unexpectedly.

And worst of all; Carrie’s hand reaching up to grab you as you place flowers on her grave!

AAAAUUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHH!!!

A japanese girl with her hair in her face.
