Ace Frehley (KISS) is on life support (has died, October 16, 2025)

Russ Ballard also made “God Gave Rock & Roll To You,” which was recorded by KISS ca. 1990, and in between by the Christian band Petra. Petra wanted to change some of the words, which Ballard and his band Argent consented to, but the KISS version is a word-for-word remake of the original.

Here’s one of my favorite YTers, evaluating “Rip It Out” and a live version of “New York Groove.” Enjoy!

As a result of hearing of that band just the other day, I learned that Frehley rhymes with Haley. I had thought it rhymed with ‘freely’.

I did too, until I heard about Frehley’s Comet.

That band popped up around the time that Halley’s (pronounced hay-lee’s) Comet made its semi-appearance in 1986.

I was never a big fan of Kiss, but I had friends who were, and they pronounced it ‘freely’.

I always thought the change in the pronunciation of Halley (from rhyming with ‘valley’ to ‘daily’) was due to Bill Haley and the Comets.

Those of us who listened to the Alive! album a million times learned how to pronounce it from the ending of "She’.

Really into these guys back in the day. Ace could really swing that Axe! Ace always seemed to be the Coolest of all of them, because he just rocked and wasn’t in your face.

Slight Hijack: I watched the Dan Rather Big Interview with Paul Stanley a day or so ago. He really comes off as a likable, sensible and down to earth guy with a really good attitude. A complete opposite of his buddy Gene. Makes you wonder how that whole this worked out. A lot of hard work, like they both claim.

Thanks for the Rock, Ace.

I probably listened to it a million times before I finally figured out he was saying “Ace Frehley lead guitar”!

Ace Frehley, the original lead guitarist and founding member of the glam rock band Kiss, died from blunt force injuries to the head that he suffered in a fall earlier this year, an autopsy has determined…

The Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Frehley’s death was an accident. The report said Frehley, 74, suffered facial fractures near the eyes and left ear and also had bruising on his left abdomen and thigh area and his right hip and upper thigh.
