I have read parts of it in the past. Mostly I was reacting to the most recent revival over his alleged family members and the various apparently contradictory stories about them. It seemed like a pile-on over nothing, especially in a thread titled “What the fuck is wrong with you” that actually started over his defense of Josh Duggan. It’s all about the perspective. ---

Ugh, I dunno why I’m resurrecting this thread to bring this up, but it riled me up and I can’t say anything in the thread itself. In the “[RIP Peter Tork](https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=871210)” thread in CS, [acey plops in](https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=21500570&postcount=18) to say he didn’t know The Monkees well enough to know which of them was Peter Tork himself, and drops a snide remark about the only thing he “knows” about the Monkees, which is that all their music was done by session musicians (totally not true). But you know, RIP to him and all that. The guy’s just so fucking _tacky_. Know when to keep your mouth shut, dude. ---

Erm, Mike Nesmith had already released several singles by the time he became a Monkee. He also has producer, composer, guitar and vocal credits on the first two albums (but yes, he wasn’t allowed to play on any tracks he produced). He was indeed a real musician before he was an actor. ---

And Davy Jones was a Broadway star (as The Artful Dodger in _Oliver!_, he received a Tony Award nomination, AND performed music from the show on The Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964 – same night the Beatles first appeared there). It annoys me to encounter people saying “musicians” with the implication that the category excludes singers. ---

So, Assplace dropped this strange little turd in the middle of The Green Book thread. Like there’s any sort of equivalency between getting bullied by a few individuals with chips on their shoulder and the decades of systemic racism that pervaded parts of this country not that long ago. Then he closes by letting us know that some of his best friends are black. Seriously, it’s like he’s this clueless old fart roaming around the SDMB. This thread popped up on his screen, and took that as an invitation to stop in and treat us all to a taste of his random musings on race in America, that have absolutely nothing to do with the subject of the thread, And it’s not a pretty sight. ---

After Biden officially declared his candidacy this morning, Happy Lendervetter posted a link to an Onion article about Biden revving up his “campaign motorcycle”, which he won in a drag race against Tip O’Neill in 1981. He fondly refers to said vehicle as a “white-hot clam magnet”, and shares happy memories of cruising around Delaware with Nancy Pelosi passing him “ice-cold tall boys” from the sidecar.
