# Achilles' Avulsion

Last October I avulsed my right Achilles’ tendon from its insertion in the calcaneus. My orthopod sewed it to a titanium screw and also removed the hallucis longus brevis tendon from its insertion in the big toe and sewed that to the tendon. A few weeks ago I asked on this MB how the tendon would attach. I got no replies. I then asked my orthopod and he said that it scars into the bone. However, I found [this site](http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=9862222&dopt=Abstract) that indicates to me that new bone forms and the tendon attaches to it with the help of type X collagen. I want to ask any of the medical doctors/scientists if this is the case and what is type X collagen?
