I’ve always been a huge fan of [Peter Case](http://www.petercase.com/). He’s not strictly blues, but he’s a good guitarist (does a good bit of fingerpicking). He produced and performed on a Various Artists tribute to Mississippi John Hurt, featuring Chris Smithers (another reccomendation!) and others.

[QUOTE=MisterThyristor]
You might enjoy the music of [Robert Lockwood, Jr.](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Lockwood) who literally learned at the feet of Robert Johnson. (His mother lived with Robert Johnson on and off for 10 years during which “Robert Junior” studied with him.)

Wow - I normally think of him as an electric, Chicago-style bluesman. I play one of his instrumentals - jeez, it’s been so long I can’t even remember the name - but he is a great player…

Good stuff mentioned in this thread.

…[Sam “Lightnin” Hopkins](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightnin'_Hopkins), very melodious Texas bluesman. See now with preview that Jackelope likes Sam as well… Both McDowell and Hopkins are also the coolest dressing guys in the 60’s bluesman fashion parade, muy adept with the shades…
And, check out [Music Maker Relief Foundation](http://www.musicmaker.org/). They not only release top notch recordings of unsung bluespeople, but actively support the last of elder blues musicians by funding tours, as well as providing monetary support for rent, medical expenses, and other expenses for those in need. I’ve seen this group start from a dream of it’s founder, to the now actual high-functioning organization that has had great success for all involved. Taj Mahal is one of it’s most vocal supporters.

Another Lightnin’ fan here. He was playing the Houston clubs in my youth, so I remember him well. And Mance Lipscomb came down from Navasota to represent some older traditions. You can hear samples of both at the excellent Arhoolie Records [site](http://www.arhoolie.com/catalog/blues.html). While you’re there, check out Clifton Chenier, who also lived in Houston for many years. No, he didn’t play “acoustic blues.” But he was the King of Zydeco! (In fact, most of the Arhoolie catalog is worth a listen.)

Check out Flower Films for more from [Mr Hopkins](http://www.lesblank.com/main.html) & [Mr Lipscomb](http://www.lesblank.com/main.html). (I am **not** on the payroll of Flower Films. Or Arhoolie Records.)

Glad to hear about [Mr Mahal’s](http://www.tajblues.com/) latest project. And his music has always been excellent–traditional blues & beyond.
